Hope he’s everything we think. I still hope this signing brings some additional talent our way; especially in the trenches!
I’m hoping to make the trip next season, most likely for the Texas State game.

How big is Walker? He looks pretty thick.

Man I really hope he can step in and take the reins. Become a Cajun legend and allow Beale/Lunch to continue to grow as a QB and step in as a 2yr starter.

While I am very happy that we got a talent like Howard to come here, unlike many of you, I don't care whether he is from Lafayette, LA or Lafayette, IN. The whole concept that any university can build a great program with just local recruits is terribly flawed.

Football is a team sport. With 5 years to play 4, UL must sign an average of 17 players a year [assuming no losses to injury, transfer, grades or whatever]. Lafayette, or even Acadiana, does not produce 17 FBS players a year, even if you do not consider that an appropriate mix of positions must be part of each class.

I know it gives us something to argue about, which is half the fun on a message board; Just like the debate about hiring a local anytime a coaching vacancy happens, it is something fun to debate.

Ultimately I believe we actually all want UL to hire the best available coaches who will then recruit the best available players, regardless of where either comes from.

    Slightly disagree.

When deciding on an offer, if there is minimal talent difference, the offer should always go to the Acadiana kid first, then Louisiana kid, then out of state. We need as many players, parents and HS coaches to view UL as the HOME team as much as possible.

When hiring a college coach, where he is from is less important as long as he can relate, see HUD. But, when you come across a Robe-type coach, you grab and hold on.

That is exactly how it's done here. If two athletes are of equal talent then you sign the one in state. If there is a difference in talent, you sign the best athlete in most instances short of character concerns or grades.
