My first chance to reply to the thread. I'm excited that Walker is a Cajun now and I think most fans are. I would say though, it's like signing any recruit, it's all based on potential. He literally has no (ok a tiny bit) experience on the field. Actually, similar to Ben before he transferred to UL from Fresno St. It took a while for Ben to get to the player he became. Walker appears to have a higher ceiling but it's a wait and see what happens, at this point. Welcome aboard Walker, glad to have you as a Cajun QB.
Regardless of how things go for him, I don't think he leaves again. I think he's here to stay. He's had a lot of frustration settling into places and getting no PT. If he's able to come to a program that has talent, especially at the skill positions, I don't think he makes a move again
No, I get that every player is only potential til they get on the field and prove it. But I don't think he's just any player. Yes, he has yet to prove anything at this level, but we are talking about a 5 star kid FROM LAFAYETTE! True hometown boy. As much talent as there is in this area, how many other 5 star guys from Lafayete have we ever signed?
Cajuns are proud people. And I believe, maybe even on a subconscious level, there exists a bit of "oh NOW you wanna come here....we weren't good enough for you then, but now things didn't work out and you wanna come home?"
Either way, I'm glad he's here. He has the ability to possibly bring in other players that may have never considered coming here. We ALL should be rooting for him to succeed, because if he does, it has the ability to change the trajectory of the program. If he comes here and shines....it starts to change the perception of other kids at that level about playing here. One factor we don't consider is the positive side of all this portal/NIL era......as we are seeing ALL these kids trying to be recruited and signed by the "biggest and best" programs, at some point, some of these kids will see the futility in chasing money and perceived prestige of playing for the P4's of the world. Maybe some of our kids will see the benefit of actually playing at home. Maybe some of these kids will see the futility by watching these other guys get their ego boosted by "signing with LSU", only to watch them ride the pine and end up in the port-o-let. Imagine if all or most of our hometown talent stayed home? Imagine the boost in interest, attendance and donors if Walker comes in here and performs like a 4/5 star talent. Now Imagine future local stars seeing that. Of all players we should be rooting for, its players like Howard. Still potential? Yeah. But imagine if it's fulfilled. It has the "potential" to change the trajectory of our program. Think about it. Be excited!
Nice
Very good post
…..oh I have seen the transfer situations through the years…. the guys that came here that weren’t very good and some with terrible attitudes…. then the game changers that were great leaders as well as super athletes….. all need to get their CHANCE!
Welcome aboard guy and hope you are the great leader to go with your God given talents!
