I don’t disagree with you or anyone else about nil. I just view things different in that the idea of a student athlete has always been a charade. It’s just much more in the open now.
I have thoughts on what could fix it but I doubt those things ever happen so I’ve stopped worrying about it. I won’t personally donate to NIL collectives and if NIL iw why we can’t compete going forward, I’ll just enjoy more of MLB.
Having a strong NIL, is important to recruiting and retaining talented athletes, but if it’s not your thing, you could donate to RCAF capital projects. Each sport has facility needs. Once these athletes are gone with NIL money or not, we’ll still have top notch facilities to recruit and retain our athletes. Many ways to win today!
And why don't college athletes just stop participating in college athletics? We also know why they won't.
Again, not against players getting payed, but we have to be honest that what we have is dishonest and unsustainable. It's pay for play. And kids being able to jump from team to team with zero consequence is ruining college athletics for everyone except the elites. At this rate, it won't be long before we see universities dropping athletic programs. It's out of control with no change in sight. Its Like Jethro Tull said, "and the train it won't stop going, no way to slow down."
Pro sport leagues love using colleges to develop their talent. I appreciate the euro model…the pro teams have their own U16,18,20, etc and develop their own. Their college system is basically just rec sports but I think it is closer to how things should be to have real student athletes.
Anderson and Nkuba are both graduate transfers. You hate to lose them, but they’ve fulfilled their obligation and did it the right way.
I won’t knock the way those 2 have conducted themselves, but I do wonder whether some of these guys are making the best choices. Nkuba for example. Transfers I would assume for playing time. With the other losses at his position, he probably would have wound up with more playing time anyway. Now he’s in the portal with 3 FCS offers. Of course, my assumption could be wrong and he could truly be using the grad transfer rule for its actual purpose (find a school that offers a grad program we didn’t).
