UL Football Top 5 of G5 Strength of Schedule Review

A composite of Anderson & Hester, Massey, and Colley & Wolfe strength of schedule rankings for 2024 regular season's top five G5 schools; averages as follows:

SoS Rank through Nov 30th games:
    Boise- 81
    Tulane- 81
    UNLV- 92
    UL- 121
    Army- 125

Our future scheduling must close the gap on those top 3.

    P.S. Marshall SoS currently 94.

Honestly our non-conference SOS was ok except for Kennesaw State

Why? Didn't Liberty stacking wins last year or year before get them ranked ahead of other G5 schools with a pathetic SoS?

Doesn't say much for the strength of our conference.

Not arguing that fact but IMHO that game was a much needed confidence boost. While we did blow up Gambling it was the Kennesaw game where everything was clicking and it rolled over to a decent performance against Tulane. That then gave the team the belief that they could beat Wake in NC.

If we would do like Turb wants and play 3 for 1 and perpetual playing 7 away games and 5 home games we would always be 6-6 and never get over the hump like the Bustle years.

Hypothetically if we would have played Georgia instead of KSU we would have most likely been blow out. We would then struggled to find an offense identity again Tulane then probably would't be mentally sharp enough to handle all the adversity at Wake. Probably would drop Texas State too. Funny how momentum plays into CFB. Look at Monroe and how they ULMost had a good season

I agree. Schedule to give yourself a chance to go undefeated. This year if we beat USA and unlv and Tulane win we would be in the playoff with one loss I believe. If we were undefeated we might be in ahead of the big 12 champion.

That's why I'm not too mad at the current FB scheduling philosophy. We're scheduling for a chance at a playoff spot.

If we go back to BCS-like calculations and not a subjective committee, then we'd have to schedule tougher like Boise in the '00s and '10s.

The Sun Belt held up the SOS, 3 OCC games were trash

We are getting some respect in the polls being ranked around 30th even though SoS is very soft. For the CFP rankings they should go to BCS like computer rankings, get rid of the subjective committee. And I don't disagree with Redtails about Liberty last year running the table with their weak schedule. They made the NY6 bowl with a CFP ranking of #23, SMU (11-2) right on their heels ranked #24 having beaten Tulane in the AAC Championship game. Every season will be different. Imagine this year if we'd had an equal 11-1 record to Boise. Maybe we'd be ranked, but we wouldn't catch Boise even though they played an FCS, too. Thinking since we are in SBC, schedule FCS schools less frequently unless there's no one to fill in. Replace with G5 CUSA/AAC/MWC if possible. I realize that's easier said than done, but we're chasing the top of AAC/MWC-PAC for a future CFP berth. Besides winning 11 or 12 regular season games plus conference championship game, SoS will factor into it most seasons. Its exciting to think about breaking through in the near future.

Let’s not forget Michigan State backed out in January.
