The much anticipated Ambassador Caffery Parkway extension is now complete. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday for the new thoroughfare, which will connect I-10 in Lafayette to U.S. 90 in Broussard. The 6.5-mile stretch of roadway also opens up opportunities for new development in points south of Lafayette.

"It's going to grow as the traffic grows, because the opening of the road will not only encourage retail development, it will also significantly impact the traffic pattern in Lafayette Parish," said Bruce Conque with the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce.

From the new Ambassador corridor, to the new Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, development on Lafayette's south side is nothing new.

"This area has the best commercial potential in all of Lafayette," said developer Glenn Stewart.

For several years Stewart has been working on Parc Lafayette; a destination, "luxury lifestyle center." Parc Lafayette will feature retail stores, restaurants, office space and a five-star hotel. It will all be located at the corner of Kaliste Saloom Road and Camelia Blvd, a location Stewart says was a no-brainer.

"Lafayette really has two centers now, downtown and here on the south side, I think primarily because of River Ranch," Stewart said.

Ground is expected to be broken on at least a portion of Parc Lafayette in the middle of May. If you would like more information, visit their website here.
