Getting us all that research money, increasing our grad programs, achieving R1, getting the OLOL property, getting us the new former dog-park acreage and building the new Heritage park apartment complex, totally gutting/rebuilding all our on-campus dorms, implementing that Master Plan, etc., etc., etc…..all of that is over-shadowed by the Marlin issue?
Where was that said? You must have reading comprehension issues. It was said we should exclude basketball from the discussion of his legacy in athletics. I challenged that notion.

    Slob away.

    Ok, I’ll bite.

Tell me: let’s say a perfect score for a president’s tenure would be 100. How much would downgrade Savoie’s for how he has handled Marlin?

My whole point is we should put the whole Marlin ‘issue’ in its proper perspective.

Where did I say it shouldn’t be put in perspective? It’s hard to put something in perspective that you completely exclude from the discussion because it doesn’t fit your narrative.

I’m good putting it in perspective.

We seem to be still serious at competing for SBC Championships in three of our big four sports. If being serious in basketball also to make it all four is too much and pulls too many resources, fine by me.

But let’s then please stop paying the head coach his current salary. Find someone to coach for half that, and let’s put the savings elsewhere.

That’s my complaint as it relates to the Marlin situation. Let’s save some money.

Dude,I did not say you had not put it into perspective.i was asking you to put it publicly how much you think the whole Marlin issue tars she’s his over all record.

Should be easy to do. I’ll even go first: I think his overall score would be at least 95%, so that would leave -5% wrong things he has done, total.

Well I agree with your thoughts about Marlin. But you didn’t really put anything into perspective…meaning, how much the whole Marlin issue damages Savoie’s performance.

I think the point being made is it should be about Marlin’s performance and the team, not all preifereal that never ceases to be brought up.

I’m guilty, I’ve used a 75% reference in the last month. It can get old and useless in a hurry.

    Interesting. Do you have documentation?

And do you know how much of that is bonded debt?

I like your analogy, but I would suggest we do it like college grading. A university is a complicated organization, with a lot of moving parts. Perfection is unrealistic. So rather than score T-Joe against perfection, let's score him against the rest of the class.

If we compare UL to in-state schools; if we compare UL to schools across the US at our research and athletics level, in relation to each school's resources, particularly in relation to state funding; I suspect T-Joe sets the curve.

    By a lot.

Sure, I'd like to see better basketball. But overall, right now we're the pace-setters.

    Humility. Gratitude.

    Breathe...

I agree with Fun. Presidents should be graded on where the university was when they started and how the university was situated when their tenure ended. Plus, one should consider the state's economic situation over this tenure. By all counts, I believe our president has done very well. UL has been blessed with a very good leadership team and an over-achieving faculty. We have much to be proud of.

Every mediocre coach that is sat on lends to the idea that poor to underperforming professors are given lifetime jobs.
