Not clear if he will coach the game Saturday. This could be a major step up for USM. Good for them.

And with all due respect to Marshall, this should be a bit of a black eye for them.

    Is this for basketball?

Only the Rivals writer reporting this. May do like Napier, coach the CCG and leave. Easy bonus money for the taking.

Been rumored for a while about USM. Even last night the topic he had not resigned with Marshall was brought up during the game. Whatever the reason, publicly it appears to be a mutual agreement.

Huff didn’t have a contract for next year and it’s the end of the season. It’s weird. Dude just got them to the championship.

I love that someone saw the fight tracker and there was a plane from Huntington to Hattiesburg. When questioned the university said something like “Huff didn’t travel.” Guess someone visited him.

Whether Huff stays at Marshall this week, or he leaves right away, I wonder if the shock to their team won't help us out a bit this Saturday...

    Coach Huff's perspective:
Coach Huff probably pee'd off royally that no real offer materialized. Dude just won a divisional for Marshall. Playing for a championship for The 1st time since they beat LTURd ~8 ish years ago.

From.Marshall's perspective.....if Huff is their Bob Marlin with 1 solid year every 4-5 years. Near term PR hit now is nothing to what extending a coach that only excels briefly when contracts are expiring. This scenario as we all know is a nightmare relationship long term.

Is USM excited about this hire? I don’t know if I would be…

I guess getting a coach that has sniffed a conference championship is better than what they’ve had.

Just blessed to have CMD. Amen

Marshall may get hoisted on their own petard. They did not extend Doc Holliday's contract after a 4-year run of 8-5, 9-4, 8-5, and 7-3 (65%) with 4 straight bowl appearances. Instead, they hired Huff.

Huff went 7-6, 9-4, 6-7, and 9-3, with 3 straight bowls (4 if you include this year); that's right at 60% of his games.

Only half of all coaches have winning seasons in any given year. Even fewer average over 60%. When you get rid of one who is winning at that percentage, the odds of getting a better one are not in your favor.

When you get rid of two of them in a row, it's like standing in a thunderstorm and double-dog daring the lightning to strike you down.

To top it off, while you are confidently betting on a better coach, better coaches are less likely to bet their careers on you. This ain't 'Bama we're talking about.

    This is Marshall.

Yeah, well that 2021 team was LOADED with talent. I could have coached them to a bowl win vs Marshall
