How many teams have gone undefeated on the road this year?
I've never liked the Sun Belt. It's always had a perception problem and conference members don't move the needle for our fans or for me. Only exceptions are Ark State, Texas State, S. Miss, App State and Marshall.
With the top teams in the AAC and SBC having no where to go, a conference with those top teams would be nice and likely the only chance for UL to move up. This would be the top G5 conference or certainly right up there with the PAC once it completes its membership and avoids all the west coast travel for those considering it the only higher up alternative. The rest of the SBC and AAC can merge. I realize this likely won't happen but one can dream. Maybe others are having a similar dream as they are in the same predicament
West - Louisiana, Memphis, Tulane, Tulsa, Texas State, Rice
East - Army, Navy, E. Carolina, Marshall, App State, S. Florida
The weak non-conf schedule didn’t help. Wins over an FCS, a 2-10 startup and a 4-8 ACC school isn’t going to impress on a national scale.
We were ranked a few years ago. We were in the Sun Belt then.
Like someone said in a different post, build on this fantastic season next year, and the accolades will come. Love what this program is doing.
This is not a knock on the Sun Belt, its 100% a knock on UL. JMU, APP St., G.S.,Marshall even TexasSt. would all be ranked with 10 wins, but they also have loud vocal fan bases that influence voters in media.
Louisiana has been very quiet all year, both admin and fans, local media everybody, not wanting to get ahead of itself, CDS whatever. focused on attendance and every other issue that needs to be addressed. The end result is little respect from voters.
Even with all that the team played themselves into a late season opportunity that would have leaped them solidly in the top 25, but lost to USA in the critical moment. that opportunity is lost for the year. maybe a 12-2 team will get the 25th spot after the bowl, but that just window dressing at that point. positive is all this positive momentum is the building blocks for starting the year in the receiving votes column and that makes all the difference in the world to start the preseason there and not have to dig out a hole.
It Army, this is not about resumes, its branding and hype. the AP is a media-driven poll, you have to drive interest and votes will come. Social media, print media, and conversations need to be constantly being had. Cant be scared to brag and write checks that the team will have to cash each week. the CFP and coaches polls will follow closely with the AP
