I say, a good matchup would be a team from the American.
First choice, Army (good exposure nationally being a military academy and everyone likes those guys and lots would watch, just because), second would Navy (see Army comments) and third would be Memphis (good record and good team, they beat a poor Florida State team, but perception is reality)(oh, and I have a sneaky suspicion they could beat the Greenies tomorrow.)
All those higher ups believe the ACC is just better than the top SBC team (see Ragin Cajuns). Tulane's best win is against the Ragin Cajuns, Army's and Navy's against Memphis ( These teams played a slightly tougher schedule than the Cajuns, but they all got beat by the P4's they played. Which proves, nothing! Cajuns did beat Wake on their home field. Good win in my book (FYI, don't forget all the darn targeting that was overcome)
I don't understand the man crush on playing a P4. I understand beating a P4 would be better for our program, overall, but beating a "pier" in the AAC would be awesome!
PS. Just as some on this board want to play a P4, you think the fans of the P4s are getting creamy play a G5 or whatever they call us. No matter what y'all think, they would be looking down on that draw.
I think it would be ideal and refreshing to get matchup with a Mountain West opponet such as UNLV or a Colorado state
NO MAC Teams for a Bowl!!!
Top choices: 7-5/6-6 P4 or solid G5 (UNLV/Navy/Colorado St./Army/Memphis/San Jose St.)
I saw one projection this week that had us facing Oklahoma in the Cure Bowl. That would be a Dream Bowl for us. The hard reality is that we probably face either Jacksonville State or Sam Houston State regardless of our record. Sad but harsh reality of the current system.
I don't know when the current bowl contracts end, but the Sunbelt should have at least a couple of better bowls. When the contracts were last negotiated, the Sunbelt was the weakest conference in the country. That has now changed. It is certainly more highly regarded than CUSA or MAC. With the teams leaving the MW after this year should be more highly regarded than that conference and, at least on occasion the equal of the AAC, though not as prestigious.
If the contracts for each bowl are individual do they all come due at same time? If not, for example, sunbelt bowls are to renew or renegotiate but if no other bowls are on same cycle the sbc bowls wouldnt have all available options to chnage much
