Rainbows showed up in Acadiana following some hail-bearing thunderstorms early this afternoon. Activity fired-up shortly after noon along a sea-breeze front that was partially loaded with some tropical moisture. Interaction with cold upper level instability allowed for rapid storm growth inducing some healthy downdrafts along with the updrafts that produced the storms. Updrafts were strong enough for hail to develop with a number of reports of pea-marble size hail in Vermilion, Lafayette, St Landry and Acadia Parishes. Largest hail reported to the Weather Lab came from just north of Carencro where quarter-size hail and up to 60mph winds were indicated. High pressure aloft and more stable air will move into the area for our Thursday knocking down the rain chances and allowing for more sun.
