Man, you guys are a tough crowd. I hope you never have a bad half-day at work. The offense had a bad half. I'm not much good at math, but I believe we scored 17 points in the second half... a good to very good half by any reckoning.
Unfortunately, the defense had a really bad first three series to start the game and the offense could not get anything going in the first half. Both sides, and special teams, played very well the second half, it just wasn't quite enough.
For context, please refer to Alabama v Vanderbilt an Georgia v Ol' Miss.
We did not score a TD until midway through the 4th quarter. That’s not a bad half. That’s a bad game.
The defense gave up 250ish yards on 3 drives. It didn’t give up 110 yards from the 4th drive of the game on.
The defense played pretty fricken good for a little more than 3 quarters.
The offense, not so much.
Last time that happened the SBC declared that if a team didn't qualify for a postseason bowl they were automatically disqualified from a regular season championship.
ULM was tossed and Ark State had the head to head over Louisiana which was the top tiebreaker at the time.
We scored 19 in the 2nd half. However, the offense stunk just as bad in the 3Q as it did in the first 2. We didn’t score a TD until the 8:28 mark of the 4Q. This despite being gifted the ball in the 3Q at the USA 21 yard line. We took that gift, burned 3:42 off the clock, went 16 yards in 8 plays, and had to kick a field goal. The drive prior to that it took us 15 plays to go 60 yards which took 8:28 off the clock. That means in a game we trailed by 3 possessions at the half, we spent our first 2 possessions of the 2nd half and over 12 minutes of game clock to put up 6 points. That is…not good. Spin it anyway you want, but saying this was just a bad half is not true.
