Right, if you’re just talking $. It is funny that our football team is in the top 30, though. 3 years into the NIL fiasco. Top 30 in baseball and softball, too.
I’m at a loss trying to understand the basketball program. This performance wasn’t even a tipping point. Marlin has not beaten a P5 team since he got here so it was expected. The closest he got was the loss to Tenn, I think. So that makes us probably like 0-15 to 20+? Most of those not even being competitive.
The only common denominator in the complete dismantling of our basketball program over the last15 years is none other than Bob Marlin. Yep . . . 15 years of milquetoast mediocrity. And thanks to Maggard/admin, we've got to continue this legacy of this barrel of hot wet garbage.
1 P5 win for Marlin.....we beat 12 win Iowa Hawkeyes about a decade ago. So something like 1-30 vs P5. likeArent we 75-0 vs D2 and lower. There's our nic______!
Way to compete on the road.
I think you answered your own question.
As far as NIL, McNeese has some big donors for their basketball initiative. But here’s the main question: if Will Wade wasn’t the head coach, would donors give to the NIL initiative like they are now? The coach has a lot to do with motivating people to donate to the cause. We had our basketball NIL event here, but even if the amount we raised still falls short, you got your answer as to why.
How many years does Marlin have on his contract? How much is his annual contract? I think I read he gets $800,000 a year. If so, that's as much or more than Des. WTH. Too much to buy him out? You don't pay a buyout all in one year, so maybe it is doable. We certainly need to do something. Last night's 50 point loss to Houston should be the final straw. It would be at most schools.
I hate to say it, but we need a coach like Wade at McNeese to revive our basketball program. Surely, we can pay more than McNeese. Maybe not him given the incidents at LSU, but someone like him who can get our fan base excited again. Greater attendance and new season ticket sales can pay for it. Right now, we have to be losing a ton of money with dismal attendance and total empathy to basketball.
Sad, in my opinion basketball has always been the most exciting sport to attend in person, especially as a student. I would love to take my kids to games like when I was younger. This program is dead, this will be on Maggard's legacy. Football success does not make up for what has happened to this once proud program.
We are also killing our future fanbase. We used to have such great student support for basketball, which carried into all the other sports. Hate to say it but zero excitement around this program currently. Unacceptable!
He could possibly top out at $800k if he hits all of his incentives. I believe he is somewhere between $650-$675k base.
The bottom line is the program is dead. Regardless of how little or much success we have the fans have given up on the HC. It’s a problem.
In MBB we should be having a coaching search every 3-7 years. Either because they are fired or hired away.
The last 15 years is on Marlin. But to insinuate the program was great until CBM doesn’t hold water.
The Glen Cyprian misfire and Robert Lee bearing the APR burden has zero to do with any type of program exuding excellence.
Mediocracy has been reigning for about 20 years. Marlin just happens to be the captain of the USS Meh today.
Base salary is $535,000. A lot of incentives based on post season success (NCAA or NIT only; no bonuses for buy in tournaments).
Buyout before March 31, 2025 is $600,000. It becomes $400,000 on April 1, 2025.
He's also not getting the $10,000 bonus for the program selling at least 4,000 season tickets.
