Thread: Realignment Question

  1. #1

    Default Realignment Question

Louisiana and Texas State to PAC?

I'm seeing this pop up a lot in PAC centered discussions on other boards from people who are usually clued in to what's being talked about by the powers that be.

I think part of what is holding up the invite to Texas State is that they might be demanding a travel partner.

I would be 100% on board with this.

Realigning with the New and improved MWC will cost us a fortune in travel costs. Would a PAC TV contract with UL be significantly more than what we get now with SBC? And if so, would it adequately cover charges for non football travel?

I would hate playing 50% of our games in the Pacific Time Zone.

It would be 2-3 games at most.

4 non conf could easily be all Central or Eastern. Like the previous several years.

8 Conf.....half at home. That's 8 in local time at minimum.

4 conf road. Half would be Central or Mountain time

Every year we'd have 1-2 games @ HOME vs WASU OSU or Boise. No brainer....hello PAC

Football wouldn't be bad. It's flights for M/W basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, and soccer that would be a budget killer. I really don't think the juice would be worth the squeeze to move to the current PAC

I'm here for it! Elevated basketball and Football for sure. Would suck playing out west most of the time, but the media deal will be much higher than SBC to help offset the cost. Probably better bowl tie-ins as well. Perception wise, this would be a big upgrade. Deep down, I think if we were in the MWC or AAC, we'd be ranked in the Top 25 already at 8-1.

Plus additional revenues from NCAA Tournament when we have multiple teams within the conference make the tournament (SDSU & Gonzaga). Fresno State, SDSU and Oregon State softball are great programs. Baseball competing with Oregon State each season would be legit.

Maybe down the road, Tulane and Memphis make the jump and then we have an Eastern/Central area in the conference.

No. The PAC when it’s all said and done will just be the MWC with 2 teams ready to jump to the A4 once the reshuffle happens.

If you think it’s a great idea, ask Ruston how that WAC experience went. They lost their presence in the CST along with budget hits.

Good post. Could be risky, but might make sense in the long run. There's still a lot more realignment still to come, IMO.

Uh, this ain't he old WAC. Not even close.

I see numbers like 6 to 9 mill per school TV contract being thrown around.

Hasn’t been put on the table yet. That’s been a discussion topic for many, a figure hasn’t been agreed upon because the PAC hasn’t enough members to market as a conference. L

The other part is that group will be as stable as quicksand. Much like the WAC.

The ONLY ex-p conference still worth joining is the Big 12. PERIOD.

2 conferences feed the Big12. The AAC and the (old)MWC/(new)PAC.

    We are in neither.

So? What's your point? UL is better than practically all of the teams in either of those conferences.
