Thread: Realignment Question

If the tv contract comes in at around 7 mill/yr (highly likely), and we say no, that would be the end of my support for this university in every capacity.

For you Big12 people, they are watching. That would tell them all they need to know about how serious we are.

Does 5 million a year bump cover travel costs for all sports?? I would question that.

Who is throwing those numbers around? That, along with OSU and WSU known to be taking more than an equal share, is a big impediment. And throw in the money they owe the MWC, it’s a bad deal all around.

At one point, CBSSN was the media they were courting. That’s a non starter.

Here’s this years deal. 11of 13 on the CW.

The Pac-12's 2024 media deal includes a one-year agreement with The CW and Fox Sports to broadcast most home games for the conference's two remaining teams, Oregon State and Washington State:

Nothing says “high demand” like the CW.

In fact, here’s an article on what the new PAC might draw.

    We are in neither.
If the PAC feeds the Big 12 and we join the PAC, then we have a shot at the Big 12 that we wouldn't have and don't currently have with the SBC.

A lot of things would improve with the move to Pac12. For one, I'd bet that ticket sales would increase with a better football and basketball home conference schedule. Having Gonzaga and SDSU coming to the Cajundome every year or every other year would be huge. Secondly, we'd get the 'SBC' narrative off our back when it comes to scheduling. Our basketball profile would increase being in a multi-bid league and we'd probably have an easier time scheduling quality home opponents with a stronger strength of schedule.

And if Memphis would join soon after us, then we'd throw Memphis into the fold of basketball home opponents.

Media money + increase in ticket sales = Happy Cajuns

If the current budget was zero it might not, but $5mil will more than cover the difference over current expenditures.

    An interesting schedule comparison:

Washington State instead of S. Alabama
    Oregon State instead of Troy
    Boise State instead of ULM
Utah State instead of Ark State
Colorado State instead of Kennesaw State
San Diego State instead of S. Miss
    Fresno State instead of Coastal
    Texas State - Texas State

    Still schedule:

Grambling - In-state FCS school on an alternating basis to open season
    Tulane
Wake Forest or other P4 school
LA Tech or second P4 school instead of App State

Clear upgrade. We would/should consistent non conference games with Southern Miss

Tulane, Southern Miss, Tech, Rice, McNeese, Southern, Grambling

Couple of these on the home schedule every year should be the goal.

I really haven’t seen any talks of Louisiana being a travel partner with TXST. Not sure where this is actually coming from.

It isn’t hard math once the PAC units are used to see OSU and WSU would be begging for a called up before any teams joining the PAC. Once their cash cow is burned, they MIGHT be the tallest midget. Don’t trust those two under any circumstances.

    ALWAYS follow the money.

With $5mil, you can fly 12,500 times for the national average cost of an ailine ticket.

Round trips and charters are even cheaper.

They always say we need to spend more to show the bigger budget power, then anytime a cost increases it is questioned, geaux figure

    "geaux figure"

    Is that a topical pun?
