Thread: Albineaux Check-In, Update, & Question from CouillionCinema

  1. Default Albineaux Check-In, Update, & Question from CouillionCinema

Hey y'all! It's been a while since I've posted about our guy Tee Al. I wanted to give all the mascot supporters an update; as well as ask a strategy question.

Check-In: The reason I haven't posted as much is because I've been working on the Cinema than Couillion as of late. My short film "Évangéline" just premiered at the New Orleans Film Festival last month. It will also play in Lafayette this month, as well as, New Brunswick, Canada (the homeland of the Acadians) . That film is entirely in Cajun French, and was shot in a perfect recreation of an Acadian style home in SW Louisiana. I'm really proud to have created a narrative that shows Cajuns as more than swamp hillbillies. I've also been writing a new script in Louisiana Creole.

I bring all that up because since the beginning of Albineaux's campaign, people have questioned my motives and my credentials/ability to create a character that embodies the Ragin' Cajun spirit (since I am not ethnically Cajun & wasn't born in Lafayette). Some people have said I'm doing all the Albineaux stuff for attention. Anybody can look up my name. I don't need anymore attention. Some people have said I'm chasing after money. If I was a person that cared much about money, I wouldn't be an artist turned filmmaker lol.

What I hope my films demonstrate is that I am a guy that deeply, deeply cares about his community and showcasing Louisiana in ways that haven't been explored before. THAT is why I care about Albineaux so much. And why I refuse to go away, even though the administration (and quite a few fans) would much rather that I do.

If you have an Acadiana flag in your home, you should know that was made by an alum in 1965. He also deeply cared about his community. It took ten years for that flag to become official, but look at all the good it has done now. My goal is for Al to have the same effect.

Update: Things are happening as I thought they would. Most of you can see that attendance at games is still a problem. That's because UL has yet to address its in-game entertainment and marketing issue. A mascot can make great strides in both of those categories, which I'm sure most of you know. People are the most receptive to change when the clear need for change is most apparent. I think we are getting to that point.

My next presentation is going to focus primarily on in-game skits, tailgate interactions, child interactions, and team entrance. It's going to be a read focused document because I need people to READ about Albineaux. So many people don't make it past one image, when I'm not just pitching an image. This campaign is about a fully developed character that will entertain fans for generations.

Expect that to drop within the month.

Question: I've been trying to keep my face away from Albineaux as much as I can. I truly never wanted anyone to think I'm doing this for clout. But I think that might have been hurting my campaigning to the Facebook crowd. I find people in Acadiana are way more receptive to good hearted people who have ambition and work their tail off to achieve, than just concepts, pictures, or words. So I ask all of you (the Ragin Pagin community who has given me so much confidence to continue my pursuit) if I should insert my personal identity more into this project? Do you think it will move more fans into being supportive of Albineaux?

Thanks for reading y'all. Happy to be on this journey with you. Geaux Cajuns.

It really is a no brainer. Not sure why it didn’t get traction within the university.

I think it is important to insert yourself into the marketing of Albineaux. People need to make the connection between Al and what it means to you and how it can become an integral part of UL.

Yes, taking a more personal approach will help others relate to you as the artist of this passionate cause. You are doing a fantastic job! I believe it’s a matter of time before an alligator is our official mascot.

I am really impressed with your diligence and artistry. Wonderful concept. Your efforts to develop the character will undoubtedly add to its potential. I hope you do play a more visible role. It will make a difference.
Don’t let the varmints get you down. Some of our best cultural warriors had little in the way of blood line but big hearts. We’re all cousins if we’re UL supporters.

A good spokesman or "face of the project" Never hurts.

From my past perusing of your work I think you would be great.

ps speaking of "face of the project" can you get Kim Kardashian a snout next time she endorses Albino for you?

Never let go. Identify yourself and be proud of what you have done. Not only Louisiana, but America needs more like you.

Love the productions you are doing. As a LOUISIANA faithful, I grew up speaking both English and Cajun French. Having grown up on a farm in Maurice, Louisiana, where I saw my grandparents daily, I learned Cajun French simultaneously with English. When I was young, Cajun French was the language spoke at the family table on Sundays. I have two sisters, 10 years and 13 years younger than me. They never learned Cajun French, so at the Sunday table, they were just out . . . eating was their only participation.

Now, I am still pretty fluent in the Cajun French language but at times, because it is used so infrequently, I find myself reaching for words. Keep the good deed going with the Cajun French language and hopefully, in time, Louisiana will see both Albino as the mascot for all time and you for the truly selfless person that you are for sharing the concept with us.

Trust me, I don't create these images or suggest what needs to be done to get fans into Cajun Field for my benefit!

I do it because I want us to be successful and to see us transform into something like Louisville, TCU, Houston, and OSU. They were just like us at one time. That's what we need to become! That's why I am here! The administration needs to think differently. It's surely not for myself, but for what we all want.

Since the University is dragging its feet, it would be great if a mascot outfit was made and introduced at tailgating. This mascot obviously couldn't go into the games, but could go from tailgating spot to tailgating spot.

If the fans get involved and support the idea, they will put pressure on the University to make it happen. The only problem would be the cost of making the mascot uniform.

If Russel Heim had gone to the University admin and said, I have an idea. I'm going to dress up as a chicken and entertain the fans. The admin would have laughed at this man and have him escorted out. Instead, he started by presenting himself at tailgating before he was asked to be part of the games.

Same thing for Albineaux. Just my 2 cents.
