I’ve said repeatedly, this offense can dominate every opponent in both the passing game and running game. In fact we have done so in every game.
Dez still need to improve his play calling. Schematically I love what he does. Pace of play, love it. Personnel grouping, mostly love it. Scripted plays, phenomenal, by far one of the best in the country regardless off conference.
Doesn’t change the fact that we have 3-4 drives every game that’s puzzling at best.
Making exceptions for poor execution, aka drops. I’ll also say there are times where the right play is called, QB1 does t pull the trigger. See the USM post game presser (I think) where Dez makes a statement regarding BW not pulling the trigger.
Napier refused to use the TE, Dez features them which is a huge improvement.
At the end of the day, I want to win championships. I could care less about being bowl eligible.
To get through the rest of this schedule and win the SBC we can not have wasted offensive series. We are the best team in this league and have yet to put a complete game together.
Some of the anxiety comes from stalled drives.
Hopes up... Less than hoped for results.
Kenny Almendares wouldn't be setting records if there wasn't a ring of truth to it.
Personally I'm loving the new pages in the record book.
Take the points is the right way to go. Louisiana left a few points on the table earlier in the season.
The anxiety on stalled drives comes from a lack of confidence in the defense, which has been earned.
Regarding Napier’s play calling he had the luxury of having really good defenses to not have to risk much. Des does not have that luxury and one reason I think he needs to not force the run.
Coaching aside, there is one aspect of this team that is not celebrated enough. That is the way they keep their composure when things go awry. They keep playing hard and with confidence during the rough patches. They also seem to be in tune with the coaching staff plans for 60 minutes. They demonstrated that even in the loss to Tulane. A team’s success or lack thereof is always determined by how they respond to adversity. At this point, they are handling things very well.
C4L. You are right that we’ve been dominate in yardage and some execution, but one main reason why the score board doesn’t show it not necessarily just play calling - but penalties. We’ve penalized ourselves out of successful drives so many times this year. A second and short becomes 2nd and tractor-ride which changes the play call , which decreases our 3rd down percentage.
I'm not arguing either way after a victory over a hated opponent. But, if Coach Des is concerned about his defense's performance, he can shorten the game by running the football as he did at Southern Miss late in the game. I think it's more about his call sheet and refusing to change it up based upon where he is on field position. JMO
