No, not any criticism. Clearly biased criticism with an agenda and zero or almost zero credit given for successes.

It’s easy to tell the difference if you try.

As far as thin skin, some on here I guess want to be able to ____ on coaches or whoever and never get questioned. Who has the thin skin?

"Imply" is up for interpretation but only one has ever said such bad things about him.

He said the same thing about Napier and never posts after a win. (although he might after reading this post )

We have been the best offense week in and week out. We can run essentially at will. We can pass it, when we catch the ball, at will. What we don’t do is effectively score the football.

IMHO it is because of play sequencing. I will admit, that isn’t on Dez all the time. Wooldridge is an ultra safe QB. He rarely ever takes chances, sometimes that hurts our scoring opportunities.

We run a very balanced offense, this season in particular, finally utilizing the biggest mismatch on the field. Which is our TE room.

Our first twenty or so offensive plays in every single game are scripted. That is a full weeks worth of game prep and play sequencing to exploit mismatches. Dez and staff are excellent when it comes to this. It’s about as good as it gets. Execution is what stalls those drives.

4th drive, pretty good series. Execution stalled the drive.

5th drive, pathetic. 3 timeouts, middle of the field is wide open. Legendre and Johnson hadn’t been stopped all game. We could have easily been in FG range had we utilized the middle of the field.

6th drive, ineffective play calls for the player personnel. Wasted series.

7th drive. Another series where the play calling went away from success.

9th drive, absolutely wrong call on 3rd down. Prior to that, the play calling was decent. But you have to do what works well on a 3rd down call. We rarely if ever run an isolated route with success.

The last scoring drive was luck. It didn’t help that we kept shooting ourselves in the foot. But great pocket presence by Ben and an effort play by Johnson saved our behind. Although Neal was wide open had a better throw been made. We had to get the first down because our defense can’t be trusted to win us a game.

What I do like about the play calling this season as opposed to his previous seasons. I love the pace of the offense. We can effectively run and throw the ball. Finally incorporating the TE. Something we should have been doing since Bustle left. Some of the plays we have ran this season have been incredibly designed. Especially last week against App St.

Dez gets in ruts with his sequencing and it hurts our scoring offense.

When we play TxSt, ULM and the SBC East champ we will need to score.
Just a couple counter points. On the drive before half, Ben took two check downs to the back. I couldn’t see the routes from the camera angles. Could have been that we attempted to use the middle of the field and like you said he’s “ultra safe” at times and didn’t cut it loose. Same could be said for drive 7 (got behind the chains with a 3 yard loss on a check down).

Secondly, part of scoring the football is occasionally getting favorable field position. Lot more opportunities to stall out when you have to go 70+ every time. Yesterday we scored 34 off of zero turnovers, and our best starting field position was our own 27. Got virtually nothing out of the punt return game, and the defense was a missed opportunity machine.

You know what and whom I’m talking g about. Those who have decided he was the wrong hire 3 years ago and therefore can never be a good coach.

I don’t think you are one of those.
To be honest, I got tired of hearing myself harping on the fact that Dez was the wrong hire at the wrong time. And I still believe it was. I've tried to limit my posting during games as much as possible. Don't think I don't know I can be obnoxious at times. ZEP's posts are generally my go to for bringing me back from the dark side. He seemingly always has the most fair, balanced, and level-headed takes on the board.

I thought it was a questionable hire at best. I didn’t see any point in belaboring that point, no possible good that could come from complaining at that point. I tried to stay positive. By all accounts he’s a great person and probably would have been “ready” in a few years.

Last year was tough. So many missed opportunities.

But this year it’s clear he has found his groove as a college play caller. I actually think he’s significantly better than Napier was at in game play calling. In game decisions in general. Napier won some games by shear ass luck. Games we should have won by multiple scores probably.

Our defense, especially tackling, is not at that level. I think defense will always be the hardest part to stay consistent because it’s difficult to build a great d line at our NIL level. But we can sure work on tackling.

Look yall criticize whoever you like, it’s a free country. It just seems absurd to hold him to a standard of perfection that nobody hits, just because you may have disagreed with the hire.

    I can agree on that

    I totally agree.

Napier wouldn't have needed to go for it so many times on fourth down if he was a better play caller.

The fact that he became famous for it underscores what you said.

Its impossible. Completely impossible, to put up 500+ yards and go to 6-1 with a play caller who doesn’t know how to string together complimentary plays. It’s a nonsensical take. And gives zero credit to the coaches and players on the other side. Sometimes series fizzle because the play caller makes mistakes. Sometimes because of execution. And sometimes because the other guys are trying to win too.

The ultimate proof is on the scoreboard and in the record. The rest is nitpicking usually by people with almost no idea of what they are actually talking about.

Have we, at times, been successful against running it against overloaded boxes, yes we have, that doesn’t mean it is advisable to do it. The literal numbers are against you and in the long term will provide more negative outcomes than positive ones.

My main complaint with Des’ play calling, and/or Ben’s adjustments, this year is that we have run the ball too much into bad boxes. I understand it in the past, when we probably didn’t have the best QB, receivers or routes in our system to take advantage of it, but we definitely do this season.

All that being said, I stand by my statement that this is the best offense we have had in this century and play calling has everything to do with that. Des/Fenroy were explosive, but no one was scared of the pass. Teams have to prepare to defend every part of the field against us this season.
I agree with your comments on the running game. That mentality is so 4 years ago. We're much more efficient and effective when we are mixing up both aspects of our offense. Perhaps to set the run up with the pass rather than vice versa. People think that because we have a huge OL that we can bully run all game but its not true. They are not the most physical line considering their size advantages.

In regards to this offense, I will say it has been a little surprisingly high powered but in no way is this offense better than the 2012 offense with Broadway running the show.

Since you’re directing this at me, go look at my post history regarding his hire. I’ve always supported this hire. It’s a very high risk, high reward hire.

Argue all you want, his play calling does need improvement, in fact he himself has made that statement numerous times.

Go look at my preseason predictions. 8 wins is the floor, but I thought this team would win 10.

You boys from the Teche are overly sensitive. Shoot, pull my post from when he was a player. I said he should’ve been starting as soon as he arrived on campus.

But go ahead, keep thinking I want to see him fail. It’s quite the opposite, but some of you morons have such low expectations it’s embarrassing.

    Of course he can improve.

But that’s not all you said. And you know it.

Look, if you can’t handle getting push back on your opinions on an Internet forum, I’ll leave you to your arm chair coaching.
