I like numbers. So bear with me, but would be curious to see what RP fans’ thoughts are on some of these.

Wooldridge: 68.4% passes completed; 12 TD passes vs 4 INTs; 4 rushing TDs

Top 3 RBs all averaging over 6 YPC: Davis 6.5, Perry 6.6, Washington 6.1

Top 2 in Receiving Yards: LeGendre 322 and Carter 316. Next place is Broussard at 183.

Why should we all like these numbers? It shows improvement on defense and the turnover margin! This is how championships are won. Defense and running the ball!!!!!

There is no doubt that there is clear improvement from the prior two seasons. So, let's give credit where it belongs, the coaching staff. I will also say that this is expected, at least from me when you look at the number of 4th year Juniors and 5th year Seniors in the depth chart. This is the most talent that Coach Des has had since he was named head coach. Next season will be a rebuilding year, so he needs to win this season.

Stating the obvious based upon the current record and stats, there are some red flags that are still a concern for me. 1.) The Redzone offense has been inconsistent the last two weeks against two poor teams. We are back to kicking FG's instead of putting the ball in the endzone and finishing drives much like last season. In my opinion it starts with the play caller and then execution. 2.) Defensively, we were exposed in the Tulane game and are venerable to the outside Zone Run & Stretch play. Some of it has to do with technique and leverage, but we are simply too light in the backside on the edges. This is a defense built for speed, but we have made 3 running backs look like All-American's this season.

These concerns need to be cleaned up, or better game planned to go forward against the schedule we play down the stretch. The Cajuns have the talent and ability to win every game left on the schedule provided we stay healthy at key positions. But every team left on the schedule is more than capable of defeating the Cajuns as well.
