They did a good job of finding comparitive positives.

I just remember Savoie saying he couldn't get donations because of the economy.

Online students may be in that number.

2013 was a pivot point in how total enrollment was calculated.
And it seems that 2024 was highest amount of non degree seekers. Very interesting data, thanks

Dr. Bowie gave an interesting talk on enrollment at UL specifically and LA in general. Showed numbers for freshmen, sophs, etc thru Covid along with applications and so on. Lots of numbers. But the obvious trend for our future enrollment as the Covid bubble/vacuum finishes its run, UL will show significant growth as our larger freshmen classes continue to move towards graduation.

An interesting statement was that if we can get an applicant to come for a visit, we usually win.

Significant growth areas are Shreveport and BR. We also have recruiting folks in place in the major Texas cities and are working other nearby states with surprising results.
He was excited about our future growth. And as pointed out in this thread, our non degree and online programs are also growing. As is our graduate program.

When asked if the R1 status helped change students’ minds on UL. He said not students, but guidance counselors. That’s taken a long time to be taken seriously.

I’m very hopeful we can continue these trends.

Louisiana has had record freshmen enrollment the last 5 years.

Seems like it should have started showing up in the overall numbers by now.

We’d see a huge growth in enrollment if we offered reciprocity for Tx, Ms and Ark students.

Unless it coincided with record transfers out/quit school/switched to non degree seeking

I found some really good data on the UL website.

    https://getdata.louisiana.edu/data-r...t-ul-lafayette

Retention is an issue that is having a significant impact on our continuing enrollment numbers. Our six-year graduation rate is hovering around 50%. In addition, the most recent data reflects 76% of first-time freshmen make it to their second fall semester and 60% make it to their third fall semester.

Promote Louisiana Athletics with student involvement and I guarantee that percentage rises.

    Got to feel connected.

A consistent “Louisiana” and “UL” message would help, but that goes off the rails at freshman orientation and The Vermilion.

For a school that struggles to get a few hundred students to go to a free game, it’s nonsensical to think our enrollment is affected in any meaningful way by how the football team is playing.

Whether before during or after, no one forgets how you make them feel.

The formula to success is making them feel good every step of the way.

Enrollment has to do with awareness.

Staying put has to do with comfort level.

The first step to failure is to say parts of the equation don't matter.

While that has been true in the past, it certainly could be in the future. No one out there “always wanted to go to LSU” for academics. Lots of people “always wanted to go to LSU” because of what happens in Tiger Stadium.

For sure it can change moving forward. But to squint and try to say enrollment oscillating in a narrow band for 40 years is tied to our football team is just silly.

Poor Baldwin, he just happened to be there when UL lost 9% of its student body.
