Don’t forget WF was part of the deal with Michigan State bailing, who paid UL 600k. WF got UL on the cheap because of the time frame. 1.4 mill is closer to the going rate.

The FCS schools usually get paid half of what the G5 schools do. Either way, greed rules the day. At least the SEC commissioner can take off the sheep’s clothing now for all to see.

College athletics will look so different in 10 years. And just wait, MBB is next. Any doubt, look how the NIT was hijacked last year by the big boys.

In my opinion, this would HELP UL..

We're so caught up in appearances and trying to posture as an "almost P4" that we shy away from doing things that appeal to our fanbase.

There's a version of UL football where, no longer under the watchful eyes, they play teams like LA Tech, Coastal, USM, etc every weekend and we turn Cajun Field into a got dang mardi gras parade every game.

Nobody wants to admit it, but we are already a minor league team. If you keep trudging on pretending that having a game at all will keep your fans, you will die.

It's time to find out which G5 really know how to market themselves.

Come on, man.. you guys can't really believe that interest in G5 teams go up because of W/L record?

The average college football fan - including the locals we're trying to lure to Cajun Field - thinks that G5 teams are a joke.

Only people watching G5 games are gambling addicts and fans of those teams/conferences

we have hundreds of threads over the years here where posters blame lack of attendance attendance on the level of competition (or shall we say again lack of level) brought into Cajun Field and now we are going to post that this will benefit UL’s attendance . . . what a farce (one group of postings) this is . . . C’mon man . . .

You only read half the equation and ignored the breakaway reality.

The myth of excellence that exists now, will disapear.

140 more losses only four weeks into the season.

No more battle of the the unbeatens 6 weeks into the season.

The marque matchups will all be tainted.

Can't wait to hear the excuses on why people should be excited to watch .500 football.

because this does nothing to make the alternative any better . . . you know, the alternative you are pitching . . . the other half of the equation you are pitching . . . there are no pitchers in football . . .

First of all the current TV deal currently isn't paying the SBC a dime more than it is worth. Currently they are paying less per viewer than they are paying the P4.

Secondly the current TV deals are not double paying for the plethora of money games on the SBC schedules.

This is because they are already paying those schools with their other package so no need to double dip.

The SBC TV value will go up in value not down, no matter what, they will always pay for viewers.

    I predict it will double.

have you taken what B4H takes . . . you have just posted the exact opposite on how things work now and will continue to work in reality . . .

. . . you know, they both took the “jab”

I have a different question: What do those schools do with their athletic success? Do they use it to build a better university, a better community, a better world? And if so, how?

And above all those, what is more important to them: Their families, their friends, their communities, and a promising future for all of them?

Or again, will they knock all of that aside just to have bragging rights on Monday?

Why is that your negative interpretation?

The level of competition for home games will go up by magnitudes.

    2 things that stand out.

    1. Any proposed changes can't happen until 2031? So much changes in college football year to year. What the heck will it look like 4, 5 years from now much less 7? Any plan they propose now most likely will not look the same by the time it can be implemented.

    2. If I'm a University, I'm concerned to see Private Equity involved. PI is only in it for the money. So, they fit right in here. The thing is, they seek money at the expense of those who are making it for them. Private equity firms are predatory and have a history of devouring what they acquire then just moving on to the next thing once they bleed all they can from the prior business.

The follow on effect to all this:

When G5’s are no longer scrambling to be considered one of the big boys, then regional conference realignment will happen quickly.

The traditional wisdom was: have a pretty good schedule with a P5 team you can beat (Iowa St, WF, etc), get ranked nationally, and be in the conversation about "best teams in country"

What we've learned is that the general football population does not consider UL a good team - even if they went undefeated this year. And the committees all confirmed that attitude by sticking our nationally ranked team in ____ty bowl games against 4 loss CUSA teams.

Record, schedule, etc does not matter, and that ship is not turning around. If you don't figure out how to make people come to Cajuns games because they are fun, then that new (smaller) stadium will be just as empty as before

I totally agree with this, but what is being posted here is not this . . .

That's only because Louisiana wasn't quite ranked high enough to unlock the designated placement of Sun Belt bowl contracts. Which those other invites were also guaranteed.
