Thread: 'The Cajun Riviera'

  1. Louisiana 'The Cajun Riviera'

If you're interested in a Gulf Coast beach vacation, you probably know that Louisiana has some of the most unique beaches in the South. While cities like Lafayette, the Cajun capital of the state, and Lake Charles, with its shoreside casinos, may get more attention, towns along the Gulf Coast are ready and waiting for you to dip your toes into the sand.

One such place is Holly Beach. Situated along the Gulf Beach Highway in Cameron Parish, Holly Beach doesn't seem like much, but it's been dubbed the "Cajun Riviera" thanks to its gorgeous beaches, lack of crowds, and stunning sunsets. In addition to the "Riviera" title, Holly Beach has also been known by another name: "Poor Man's Paradise."

Did it really say "gorgeous beaches"? Compared to what, Omaha Beach on D-Day?!?

    All beaches are gorgeous.

Some you don't want to walk on.

Someone reading this from outside of Louisiana would be highly disappointed and rightly claim this as false advertisement. Being from Virginia and moving down here as a kid in the late 70’s, my sister and I were excited to be so close to beaches on the gulf. We had already been to Florida. Imagine our disappointment when going to “The point”, but that was the bay, let’s go to Holly Beach! Yuck!! Louisiana has a lot of great things going for it, but I wouldn’t brag on the beaches.

    Marketing is tricky.

    "Riviera" and "Paradise" are misleading.

The Emerald Coast in a portion of Florida is good marketing because that is what you see under certain conditions.

Good accurate luring marketing for Acadiana's Beaches (that doesn't lie) would be somrthing that encompasses the Mermentau influenced silt colored ocean.

    "THE CARAMEL COAST"

    Uhh, no. Just, no.

The pic is misleading too. I get why they did not use and actual picture of the Cameron coast.
They also mention "white" sand. I mean, come on man.

isn't a requirement of white sand just a bit prejudiced or racists . . .

They have pumped white sand onto the beaches, but it doesn’t stay white.

In 1990, Holley Beach was well inhabited but there was nothing white on its beaches . . .
