UL football defeats SBC rival Southern Miss for the first time since 1993

Louisiana football traveled to Hattiesburg with a huge chip on its shoulder facing its first Sun Belt Conference opponent of the season and a bitter rival Southern Miss.

The chip spans decades of thrilling matchups with the Golden Eagles that ended in heartbreak. The Ragin’ Cajuns haven’t tasted victory in M. M. Roberts Stadium since the 1980s. But the Cajuns mended those past broken hearts this week by beating Southern Miss 23-13 and breaking an 11-plus-year losing streak to their conference foe.

I don’t understand this coaches play calling. You’re inside the 3 yard line, you’ve failed to go up the middle, WHY DO YOU KEEP TRYING. Can’t you realize they are expecting you to go up the middle. You’re predictable, and that’s what Dez is PREDICTABLE. He’s gonna cost us games by being so conservative and predictable. I WANT HIM TO SUCCEED, BUT come up with some trick plays or rethink your short yardage plays.

This is one of the best offenses we have ever had. If Napier would have let Mike call plays we would have throttled people. It’s always easy to second guess after the fact. If he called a trick play that didn’t work people would be saying he should have ran it up the middle.

Our current play calling has never in my 60+ years ever been better Not every drive will be perfect, BUT our rate of possessions that result in points is flat out incredibly high.

Kinda sounds like what a baseball coach from the past might say after a W. And his speech was not a bad thing.

Agree. I don't want high school gimmick inside the 5. We saw gimmick inside the 5 for a two point conversation attempt vs. Tulane. Didn't work.

I agree, no trick plays. But why run up the middle on 3rd and goal from the 7 and get 4 yards? Ben had been successful passing. If you're gonna kick the field goal, those yards don't matter.
