It’s a high expense that may not be profitable. Also, health codes and additional insurance premiums may be an issue. Just my personal opinion. The restaurant industry is fickle to say the least.

If any restaurant had to be operated and run by Sodexo, it would be an absolute failure!

With the number of restaurants that have closed in the area over the last year, might not be a sound investment.

Should create something like this, a restaurant patterned with WVUs NIL collective. Portion of proceeds goes to NIL.

With the almost daily guarantee of a certain amount of foot traffic coupled with a small amount of required loitering, this has to be a, windfall location for any restaurant or eatery.

Pile on top of that about 60 days a year with viral levels of outside generated interest and this is the #1 prime location in Lafayette for the savvy investor.

My initial thoughts reading the ideas of a permanent restaurant on the East side in this thread were skepticism and disregard...but even if it was a cafe + student dining like at Cypress Lake, it would give commuters and alumni/local professionals an easy place to stop and dine in and develop or strengthen a bond to the athletic complex.

Even a place like the old Grab N Geaux that was a Zeus near Olivier Hall when I was a student.

I think it's a great idea. Although I'm sure they have other plans for that side of the stadium.

I thought the original state funds for this aren't available anymore or at least at the moment?

    (I hope they still are)

That was my belief as well with the cuts to the state capital outlay budget, but hearing Scott mention it in that podcast gave me a little hope.

For a stadium being in Cajun country the food at the stadium (last time I went) was absolutely horrible. My kids funnel cake was burnt and inedible. How do you F up a funnel cake????

It's all a numbers game. They will shift it to a different priority level to "fix" the budget then put it right back.

Ok, I am doing some digging on this whole ‘when will the east side be funded’ question. Not sure if any of this has any value, but here is what I have found so far:

    1. I found the Capital Outlay budget for the whole ULS, which spans 5 years, 2025-thru 2030. I have not found the one for 2024 yet, but based on what we’ve heard, there are some funds for the east side already?

    https://www.ulsystem.edu/wp-content/...cilities-3.pdf

    2. Our total amount for the 5 years is $1.2 billion, with a capital B. That far outstrips everyone else. LTU comes in a distant 2nd, w/‘only’ about 300 million. Most others fall in the $200-250 million range.

    3. Looks like for 2025, we have it prioritized as #6, which is pretty high up there. Only the current new/renovation classroom projects rank higher.

    4. Interesting to me is that we also have it listed as ‘C,’ for contouring, which means that we have already received funds for it???

    5. As for the most important question…funding, the east side project is listed as Also, funding is listed as Funding GOB & SG, which I take as being Gov’t Bonds and Self-Generating…..but that part is beyond my level of knowledge, so maybe someone can explain what they mean and how that impacts the likeliness that it gets funded.

    6. I am also including the school’s own project timeline. You’ll notice that here it confirms that start time is anticipated to begin 2025, specifically after the west side is done.

That’s all I have found so far, but will update more as I find things.
