Why not go after Liberty?
Travel partner is a true deal for the road team. You generally play 2 nearby teams on one road trip in basketball. You play at WKU on Thursday and at MT on Saturday. You can bus on Friday from one school to the next. Better than playing WKU on Thursday and Georgia Southern on Saturday. Extra flight involved there.
You need a school in the central time zone to keep divisions balanced. WKU fits that bill. Liberty does not.
If SBC needs to replace TX St. by dipping into CUSA, W. KY probably best of the rest pick. Maybe its a wash with ESPN as far as SBC TV contract goes? We did have a good +20 year basketball rivalry with WKU in the past.
Travelling for Mtn West baseball will suck. Closest road trip today would be Albuquerque. Even "nearby" El Paso is actually closer to California than ito Houston.
& frankly none are all that good or have any winning traditions
I hear everything y’all are saying about Liberty…and I agree, but you can’t argue with their success.
They have been one of the best G5 schools over the last 5 years, with a huge athletic budget and fan base.
If anyone leaves the AAC, I believe Liberty and JMU are the next two on the list.
Out of tech, middle and WKU. My vote is WKU by a mile.
