Ironic, if a player doesnt end up getting paid then did he need to take out a student loan to pay the agent?

Agent only gets paid their percentage once the player is paid. They work for free until then.

This kind of stuff is going to multiply across college football as quickly as players sitting out bowl games did. Hard to imagine a starter of any position, much less a key team leader, would quit his team in middle of the season. And even if we give Sluka the benefit of the doubt he got hosed by the UNLV collective, he's making a short term decision with long term consequences. The NCAA has messed this up so badly with no end in sight.

The United States Supreme Court did this based upon the United States Constitution. All the NCAA can do is watch . . .

You make a legit point here.

ETA: But looks like he already has a degree. Going forward forward, though, maybe that’s a card a school might play?

Watching one of UNLV’s games earlier this season, and seeing his stats through these first three, I don’t he’s going to be able to make a living as an NFL QB. Therefore, he’s got one year left in his cap that he can make money playing ball, then he’s got to move on to the real business world.

So if the NIL promise didn’t come through, I don’t think he’s harming himself of future gain by making this move. However, I also don’t know how much money he’ll be able to command either. His options for next year are probably limited to some G5 program that runs an offense more dependent on a QB being able to run than throw. And none of the option offense service academies are on the table.

Honestly, I hope this starts happening more and more.

Maybe the adults who are tossing stupid amounts of money to kids with absolutely zero loyalty (not saying it's there fault) will start to ask themselves "What the hell am I doing this for?" and this money grab game will slow down.

The facade of "student" athletes has long passed, I don't think credit hours and transcripts are going to keep a kid from going somewhere that wants him that badly.

    Transfer Portal:
    1. Players only get one free transfer; all other transfers come with a mandatory sit-out year
    2. If a coach leaves or is fired, they get a transfer
    3. If a player elects to redshirt after 4 games, they are ineligible for a free transfer (must sit out)

Rein in the transfer portal first and then we can think of solutions to make NIL transparent and fair for both the Universities and players.

It will be interesting to see what the SC ends up doing with no compete clause cases coming their way.

I don't think that matters for grad students if they go to another university. For that matter, he could still be attending classes at UNLV. Usually entire tuition is paid up front so he could still be earning credits to a second degree and athletics has no power to stop him in that regard.

I didn't know "the player" can decide when to redshirt? Obviously, they can now, just didn't know that decision is totally up to the player now, not the coaching staff. Crazy!
