Let me preface this post by admitting I'm a somewhat new Cajun FB fan. 2nd year with season tickets.

    1. I know people can't predict every scenario. I was hopeful this was the first time Cajun Field ran out of water and figured it would be a tough lesson learned, not to be repeated. After reading this thread, am I understanding correctly that this has happened in the somewhat recent past? If so, I am angered that THEY, that *SOMEONE*, with some institutional knowledge didn't step up and say, "Hey, y'all remember that time people got baked in the sun? Maybe we should be better prepared this time around?"

    2. Opposing point of view - I would assume the vast majority of people who purchased the 23,000 tickets are grown a** adults who should be able to prepare for baking in the sun without having to be told how to dress and hydrate, etc. Was UL admin, athletics, whomever supposed to tell us how to properly apply sunscreen, too? I showed up at my tailgate spot at 8:30 am and knocked back Powerade until I walked into the stadium. Went straight to concessions and got my two beers plus a couple waters. Went to concessions at the half. No water. Got me another couple beers and a couple diet cokes. Left after the clock hit 00:00 with no medical interventions needed.

Could the Powers That Be have done things differently? Yep. Should we try some personal responsibility as well? Yep. Let's all do our part.

    Geaux Cajuns!

First of all…welcome to fold. Hope you are a season ticket holder for many years to come. We can use everyone we can get at this point.

Secondly. I’m not sure how much validity your second point holds. I think most people going to a sporting event or concert are counting on being able to purchase drinks for their hydration needs at said event. Thats like if you invited me to your house for supper, didn’t provide food, and then yelled at me, “don’t you know how to feed yourself? Aren’t you a grown @ss adult?”

I get your point about the attendee's expectation that drinks will be available for purchase. That is valid.

Where did I say that I couldn't purchase a drink? I couldn't purchase water, but I could purchase diet coke. If you come to my house and I put mayo on your sandwich, but you wanted it plain and you don't eat, that's on you.

Did UL run out of ALL non-alcoholic drinks? I must have missed that tidbit.

And we are thinking of this from purely a safety issue stand point. How much money are they leaving on the table by not being properly supplied for a game? Whatever the water number is 6k, 17k, or if they had 25k, the fact that the were running out at some concessions before half time says that they could have made double the money.

Ask your doctor if you should hydrate with water or Diet Coke and report back.

On point 2, the majority of people I saw being tended to were Tulane fans. I also so many of their fans hiding in shade areas and even sitting in the ice bins.

The 6000 number I first heard was that was the amount of bottle over what they supplied for the Grambling game. For a game like this weeks there should be a minimum of 1 bottle per person. There also should be the free water stations in each corner of the stadium.

But that wasn't his option. It was no water or Diet Coke.

I'm sure any doctor would say to absolutely drink a soda if water is impossible to come by.

But anyway, welcome to the board JackFish. Hope to see you around

There is no world where a solid defense for running out of water is, “but we had Diet Coke! All you had to do was wait in line for 20 minutes.”

I mean I get his point. We are responsible for hydrating ourselves. I still don’t think it’s an unreasonable expectation for people to think they can get a water at a sporting event in a reasonable amount of time. Not speaking for myself here. I also stayed until 0:00 and didn’t have any issues, but we have been hemorrhaging money for years with our poor gameday operations. This is just another example in a long line of failures.

    ^^this x100

I would assume water is one of the most highly marked up items available to purchase at the concession stands. It also requires no preparation like many other items.

Being water doesn't expire, we should have a hundred pallets of it sitting in a staging area, just waiting to be sold/consumed.

You don't have to beg people to buy water when it's 100F+ outside. The stuff just sells itself.

Valid points even the one about "can't predict every scenario."

Fortunatly for those "with some institutional knowledge" they aren't dealing with a perishable or something that needs to stay in the cooler days in advance.

Im one that only drinks water on days like that, so no soda, no beer till later.

One water per-hour per attendee might be a fair line of protection, especially since it will still be good in two weeks.
