Why is it easier to schedule for baseball or softball but always lacking good opponents for football?

    Always wondered that

For football or basketball always lacking good teams to play at home

30 or so games for diamond sports vs 6 football or 12 basketball

With RPI as a metric for baseball and softball post season, I think good opponents want to schedule us to help their hosting/seeding chances.

Football is the gravy train. P4 schools want 8 home games to maximize revenue. They are also scared to play good G5 teams, especially on the road, because one loss and their season is done.

If you play a tough enough schedule and don't mind negotiating, you can eventually get any team to come to your place.

True to a degree, you wont get a road and home straight up, but if you offer more road games at their place AND make them feel that their return to your place is far off and not immediate you can definitely get them over.

As long as they get a SOS boost by playing you.

Football and basketball currently offer no SOS boost.

Because good team in the north are looking for games in the south where it's warmer. Basketball is indoors so weather is not a factor. Also, the spring sports have more games.

More like a pool of four games to play with annually for football, and it is true that if you only schedule ahead one year at a time, you are 100% correct.

Three-for-one looks 10 to 15 or even more years out.

That gives the scheduler a 60 game pool to play with in football and 225 games to negotiate with in basketball.

Only if you limit yourself with year to year scheduling.

If the smorgasbord of the next 12 seasons is your buffet, it is not a hard negotiation to make.
