Paying a Talent Fee

This is a very slippery slope. Employees are entitled to many things, like workman’s comp and disability, just for starters. Career ending injuries will get expensive. Laugh if you wish, but many laughed about being where we are today.

Oh, I completely agree, which is why the universities smartly wouldn’t venture out to that liability. But as fans, then why the hell should I fork over money, extra money that’s like a salary, to someone who will immediately bolt for more inside of a month?

you should not, but why repeatedly appear on the team's message board and condemn the process and create a culture where others who may want to contribute don't . . . NIL should be encouraged or other pier schools who encourage it will just pass us up . . .

I say NO to a "Talent Fee". Here's the deal, NIL is intended to allow people to get a return on investment for what they pay an athlete. I did not and will not just give straight to Krewe Allons so they can give money to whoever they feel like. In my world, I need a return for the money. I have bought auction items at the Des Golf Tournament where the money went to the Krewe because I received something in return. That's my thoughts on this issue. DO NOT ADD A TALENT FEE WHEN YOU'RE TRYING TO GROW YOUR FAN BASE.

That would never happen. Student athletes (like coaches) can take all the money you give them, never play a down, then move to the next school. Until there's some sort of regulation it will continue to be the wild west.

I may be wrong, but I have heard that signing contracts is not necessarily out of the question. May not happen immediately, but is being explored (by other P4 universities).

If that happens "non competes" may follow.

In August a Texas District Court set aside the FTC’s rule that was about to (Sept 4th) make 'non compete' clauses illegal.

The court declared that it would “not be enforced or otherwise take effect on September 4, 2024, or thereafter.”

I would more than likely shut off the flow of discretionary income for season tickets if the university imposed a mandatory talent fee to purchase season tickets. The recent NCAA revenue-sharing plan between schools and athletes is causing schools to look for additional avenues of funding. IMO, this plan will result in the golden goose being killed for collegiate athletics. For those saying that for every person who drops their season tickets because of this, there are 10 others waiting to take their spot, I am not so sure about that. Maybe in the short term but I believe the long term will show a different story.

Q: Which athletes are most likely to be lured away from us for a bigger NIL deal at another school?
A: The best players

At P4 schools, fans paying NIL to retain the best players is a decent concept because they are at the top of the NIL mountain and most of their players won't find a better offer.

For G5 schools, funneling the most money to the players most likely to leave the program is a disaster that will only lead to frustration.

The Title IX monster, especially at UL where female sports other than SB, are free. Yet, legally, they’re entitled to a slice of a technically government funded pie.

Entitlement America! Tennessee's approach is another way for universities to create a hand out on the backs of fans without any guarantees the athletes receiving payments remain on the team any length of time. NO more entitlements without some quid pro quo. In its present form, I'm against a 'talent fee'. Dr. Maggard's $10 per mo. request is not unreasonable except its an open ended entitlement. Could become more open minded about the whole NIL thing if athletes were at least required to remain first three seasons of eligibility at original university. Then you can transfer for any reason, i.e. more playing time, closer to Moma, more $$, whatever the exception being change of your head coach. Presently there's no guardrails, can't trust the system and I use the word system very loosely. And I don't blame the kids; who wouldn't accept money legally landing in your laps?

Free as in admissions? There's no tickets charged for WBB and Volleyball? I'm pretty sure T&F charges for admissions into their one home meet, though I know that one weekend hardly adds to the pot. However, every bit counts. If Volleyball is currently free, then hell...$3 per person? Something?
