Well, the coaches also have some say in scheduling. For instance, during Covid Billy Napier was asked if he wanted to play Army or UAB. Napier told Maggard, "hell no we are not playing Army". Recently under Coach Des, it was down to Wake Forest or Louisville. Des told Dr. Maggard, "no way we are playing Louisville.

All coaches have input on scheduling. See Men's Basketball.

If a football coach expressed a desire to enter a 2-for-1 deal, would Maggard allow it? Everything I’ve ever heard since he’s been here has pointed to no.

That's a major weakness of Dr. Maggard, not being able to provide an exciting out of conference schedule. I wish he cared more about it, or showed a better skill at it, because he has let us down in that area.
