My first reaction was I thought it was too early in the season for a hoops game.

Remember NWST scrapped their season last year after an 0-6 start and the death of a player. Their coach resigned too. Clearly, they still have some issues.

But, midweek and all that. It's the best. Right?

Well, the coaches also have some say in scheduling. For instance, during Covid Billy Napier was asked if he wanted to play Army or UAB. Napier told Maggard, "hell no we are not playing Army". Recently under Coach Des, it was down to Wake Forest or Louisville. Des told Dr. Maggard, "no way we are playing Louisville.

All coaches have input on scheduling. See Men's Basketball.

If Napier was scared he should have said so.

I guess "Scared money don't make money" has its limits.

Army would be an excellent home and home. You should never turn that down. If you can't game plan for their offense maybe you should find a different profession.

Guess I can understand Army if you're trying to have a Top 25 ranked season as a G5 team...meaning you can pretty much afford only one loss. However, why "No" to Louisville?

Yes, they pretty much restarted the entire program this year. Roster is:
    35 - Freshmen
    16 - RS Freshmen
    12 - Sophomores
    33 - Juniors
    9 - Seniors

With NIL, that count is going to be more and more common.

I’m sure their staff will switch to the Southeastern strategy. A mix of high school recruits treating it like JUCO to move on to bigger schools and D1 fallbacks that didn’t pan out.

UNLV upset Kansas. UNLV one of the early g5 playoff spot leaders I’d say. They have 2 big 12 wins(Kansas and Houston) If memphis can beat fsu tomorrow they’d be there too.

Guess northern Illinois also. 2-0 with a top 10 win
