OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) - St. Landry Parish's sales tax collections
continued their downward trend in March but, at least, at a slower
pace.
The Daily World reports sales tax collections, which fell 16
percent parish-wide in January and another 12.6 percent in
February, where down again in March, but this time by only 6.6
percent.
According to figures released by the St. Landry Parish School
Board, which tracks the parish's sales tax numbers, parish-wide
collections in March were $3.697 million, a drop of nearly $263,000
from the same month the year before.
The numbers are especially troubling for the school board, the
largest single recipient of sales taxes in the parish.
School board collections are down nearly $400,000 so far this
year, compared with the same period the year before.
