UL Football Game 1 overall experience

Tailgating (D-): The RV side of tailgating was disappointing. People were parking randomly, with about 50% of vehicles missing tags and another 30% parked in the wrong areas.

Atmosphere (A+): The crowd was fantastic, especially given the unfavorable weather. The positive energy was palpable.

Student Section (A+): The student section was vibrant and engaged, even though, according to my niece, many students who had originally planned to attend didn't show up.

Marketing (B-): While the social media marketing was solid, I was on campus all week and didn’t see a single piece of physical signage promoting the game. That’s an area that could definitely use some attention.

Concessions (D): The lines were extremely long, though I was able to skip them thanks to my RCAF pass. Still, the concession situation needs improvement.

Bathrooms (C+): The lines for the bathrooms weren’t terrible, but they could have been better. I was expecting additional bathrooms, but they didn’t seem to bring any in.

New Stadium Lights (A+): The new lights are amazing, and I was thrilled to see them in action. I’m not sure if they can change colors, but I hope they have the capability, especially for incorporating red.

Team Entrance (A+): The team entrance was as strong as always. We’ve always done a great job getting the players on the field, and this game was no exception.

Offense (B+): The offense looked good overall. I’m hoping they were keeping things simple and not giving too much away. The passing game was solid, and the running game was decent.

Defense (B): The defense was okay, but we didn’t put much pressure on the QB. I’m hoping this was due to conservative play-calling. Our coverage guys seemed smaller than usual, though that might be due to my new vantage point.

Overall: I’d give Game 1 a solid B. There’s a lot of potential, but also some areas that could use improvement as the season progresses.

Question about tailgating.... we dont want tailgate regulations as a general rule but then if there is a complaint that tailgating is unorganized wouldnt that lead to more regulation and possibly more fees from administration?

We need to start taking the opening role when the HBCUs come to town. That felt like Led Zeppelin opening for Night Ranger.

I agree, but it won't change the gap between "our' band and many other college marching bands. UL keeps settling for mediocrity for the total in stadium experience. 6+% of the total Gambling student body was represented in either that band or the FB team.UL has 3 times plus the enrollment of Gambling. Why can't the POA membership include 250 band members out an enrollment of over 15k .it is and has been for years an embarrassment.

And please, POA feel free to mix a salad or two into your diet and step away from the pizza bar.

With the exception of highlighting starters on the video display and the solid play on the field, there is still nothing raging or Cajun about the in game experience..

Few things to add as a parent with kids.
Don’t let the rain stop you turned out to be a great day for tailgating just with rain boots for puddles. The kids Cajun village is right across from our tailgate spot and all of the children loved it!
The Cajun walk needs to sound the siren again maybe I didn’t hear it and they still do it but I feel like a lot of people miss it. We don’t because it’s right in front of us.
In the stadium: whew we sit on the hill and geez, the PA system is deafening. Also, the fireworks are RIGHT in front of you there. after they shoot up debris flies in your eyes and now my 4 year old is traumatized. Seems kind of dangerous.

Other than that we had a blast and I like 7pm kickoff. Yes even with kids! Geaux Cajuns!

I know it’s likely because of the temp press box situation, but there were times during the ESPN+ broadcast that it was hard to hear Dan because the PA was absolutely DROWNING him out.

Given the circumstances, I thought the stadium experience was managed well. 23k jammed into half a stadium is going to be challenging. Yeah, concessions were long. They were always going to be. The grab and go lines moved pretty quickly, though.

    Miss the beer hawkers.

Yesterday felt more like a proper college football atmosphere than any of the games the past 2 seasons.

The PA announcer was too loud as usual, but not hearing Dan is not a bad thing.

Except for the idiot screaming on the PA system while the Grambling band was on the field
