Thread: Should UL play such highly rated football teams

  1. UL Football Should UL play such highly rated football teams

Should UL play such highly rated football teams? As of today UL has played teams ranked as follows: 12th-Oklahoma State, 13th-Michigan State, 26th-Minnesota, 33rd-South Carolina and tomorrow will play Southern Miss ranked 58th out of the 117 teams in District 1-A football. UL is ranked 112th and are only ahead of one team in the Sunbelt Conference, which is Idaho ranked 114th. I know the money is good for playing these teams but maybe the teams we play out of the conference should not be so highly rated. At least we are not the 117th team, which is Southern Methodist.

I think we need to continue playing the big schools for the paycheck. However, we need to stick to playing the Vandebilts, the Baylors, and the Mississippi State's of the conferences. If we can play these guys and beat them, it will do wonders for our recruiting and getting butts in the seats at Cajun Field. Just MHO.

Until the program gets built back up where it should be there is no reason on earth why the cajuns are playing those teams. What good is money if it keeps the school losing?

I have no problem with one or two big games a year. But the current trend of playing 3, 4 a year is preposterous.

ps the financial imbalance the BCS provides is preposterous as well.

    UL Football schedule

We have to schedule who we can schedule. We can't afford to be that selective.
Just let Coach Bustle figure it out.

One or maybe two big time teams a year. You need those games for two reasons. The money, but also you need to beat a top tier team to start getting noticed. Four or five a year and you're just beating your team up and setting yourself up for failure in conference play, but one or two is just right.

Do like LSU does they only play 1-AA teams and Louisiana teams out of conference play, with some exceptions.

    UL Football playing top teams

i can honestly say that i am shocked to see so many voting on not playing ranked teams or teams in the lower big conferences.......please, stick your tail between your legs run and hide, i mean,"COME ON,"
are you people that afraid of competition? question, how does one measure improvement? how do you tell a recruit, we don't play does teams because we are afraid, we don't believe we can win ever. if i am a recruit i want to play good and better teams, it gives me a guage on what i need to do to improve and get better. what's the old saying, "IF YOU CANNOT STAND THE HEAT, GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN." people, that's the only way in my opinion to get better and get better players, coach Rob. refuse to play lesser/weak competition, come on, think about this. as for me, i will never run and hide. good work sport fans, have a great day.

At this point in time, we don't stand a chance against a BCS school. This is no secret. We might have the heart or the will, but we simply don't have the talent. Where we are right now, playing BCS schools is like a junior high team playing a high school team. (Or the Saints playing any NFL team). Its a hopeless cause.

No one is afraid of competition, its just that we aren't competiton vs. BCS schools. We aren't playing Minnesota for a win, we play them for the big payout. Plain and simple.

why don't you go and ask the coaches if they are playing these school only for a check, get real, i don't know of any coach who will play if they don't want to win, yes, the money is okay, thank god you are not a coach. all that mess you guys talk about is just that, fan talk, bcs junk, can't win, hello! HEADLINES......anytime two teams get togather anything can happen, that's sports, but you know you guys don't get it, oh you will say something like, yea, get real, well i am real, that's why you play the game, to see who will win, it happens maybe not that often, but it does happen, and the only way to find out is to play the D-A-R-N G-A-M-E, get it "play the game." talent will come, keep the faith. UL Football

One major, 3-4 mid-majors, couple small or 1-AA & the conference games. They just have to balance schedule better than they did this year I think. The first 6 games were tough on the guys & the fans. Hoping sch. next year is not as tough. We need some wins to get the fans back in the stands.

    This is so COOL

I think next year's schedule will/should be the standard by which UL schedules from here on. You will have a 4/4 format for conference, one major BCS money-maker and two mid-major games alternating home & away. With conference realignment, this may be short-lived but I hope it becomes the standard.
