This is a direct result of Grambling loading the box. If we can prove that we can pass the ball consistently, then we will see better defenses to run against. I am 100% fine not forcing the run. For the most part, we had really smart play calling (with the exception of the red zone sequence at the end of the 3Q/beginning of 4Q) last night.

The use of the TE over the middle will relieve pressure on inside blitzes and/or double coverage of a WR.

I do agree, on some runs, we didn't get the push I would like to see, but after rewatching the game, we still ran the ball into loaded boxes a handful of times.

    Good points.

I hope the running game gets an upgrade before the next game. TE & WR looked solid.

I was not happy with the running game in the 1st half. But after listening to the press conference after the game, both Coach Des and Woolridge stated the game plan was to open the passing game up to help Woolridge prepare for the season because he had not played a live game against an actual opponent in almost a year.

Defensively we were pretty much vanilla in the front seven. Most of the damage came against the reserves in the second half on Debose on at least two long passes.

Overall, the first half was relatively clean with the exception of the muffed return. The second half didn't start well, they clearly weren't playing with the same intensity and the play became a little sloppy at times. I usually don't complain about 30 pt wins, so I think we can all live with the outcome.

The competition becomes better next weekend.

I’d love to see us keep that type of production out of the TE’s.

Agree. I figure we wouldn’t be able to tell much about the team from this game…unless we lost. Then we’d know something bad.

I figured we’d try to throw the ball to find a rhythm for Games 2 & 3, but would have been nice to see the running game perform better vs a SWAC program. Is what it is. I think we’ll know more about the team after next weekend.

Then get ready to host Tulane. That has the potential to be a HUGE game for us and the Coach Dez regime. Get blown out, and the rest of the air gets sucked out the room in regards to the current state of the program. Play a game down to the wire, win or lose, against what should be a very good Tulane team, and you’ve got some hope. Winning the game could be a big.

Did the highly touted edge Ashley Williams play? Was paying attn to edge play and I thought it was "ok". qb got the ball out pretty quick and had good feet.

Some of ya’ll are ridiculous. It was obvious our game plan was to work on the passing game. If we had run all over them but only thrown for 150 yards some of you would be _____ing about the passing game.

Why work on 1 aspect of the game at the expense of the other? You HAVE a full 60 minutes.

According to the press conference they wanted to push the ball up field via the passing game to get Woolridge some looks against live competition. It makes sense to me sense he has not faced actually competition from an opponent in nearly a year.

I’m good with the down field stuff. It’s the wr screens on 1st and 2nd down for 3-4 yards instead of ground and pound that could wear the front 7. I want to win 4th quarters like the Napier teams did.
