Student Tailgating

Greetingsit's been a while.
I knew this would reach this board and before it gets blown out of proportion.

This year, in addition to regular student tailgating on the practice field (which remains free), there were also 80 reserved tailgating spots available for purchase. Emails were sent out to students and campus organizations. Several Greek organizations took advantage of the opportunity. Evidently some didn't bother to read their email (if they tell you they didn't get one, be very suspicious.) The spots sold out in 90 minutes.

Now, some are going to X, insta, etc., complaining they're being excluded. Nope. No one was excluded.

In the past, student tailgating was handled by campus. This year, it's being handled by athletics. And, the general student tailgating will be more enhanced than ever before. It
probably won't please everyone (nothing ever does).

But it's going to be a lot better than it was. Beware those who act butt hurt. My guess it's their own fault.

ALL Louisiana students are still welcome to tailgate for each home game on the football practice field. New to student tailgating this year will be more entertainment and local vendors that we all know and love!

I don’t know all the details but can only tell you that little KK is a KA and they have always been big supporters of all sports and have no tailgate spot this year. This school is so F’ed up the way it handles its Greek system they are lucky it still exists. I remember last year at So Alabama the Greeks all had their pre games at their fraternity houses across the street from the stadium just like we did here back when I was in the school in the late 80s early 90s. If you can do it in Mobile you should be able to do it in Lafayette.

I have my reservations about this.

I get "reserve" but for growth purposes, lifestyle creation purposes, and future donation purposes, students should not have to "purchase" a tailgate spot.

Just a thought here, but maybe it's a good time to step back and look at how the space around Cajun Field is utilized. I'd imagine we could map enough spaces for all student organizations to tailgate.

The fact that it "sold out" says I am wrong, but I still have my reservations as far as highest potential is concerned. .

I would love to see a mad rush of students making reservations for fun events.

I like this idea to invest in more student tailgate amenities. Apparently, the students agree because the spots are sold out and free student tailgating is still an option. Let’s have perspective. Students barely fund athletics in the same manner of our SBC peers do.

Spots are free. I had a conversation with someone who works in athletics and here is what is speculated as to what happened. The email was sent out on August 1st. Most current students aren’t checking school emails on August 1st. They are doing things like summer jobs or vacations. The person I spoke to seems to think a bunch of incoming freshmen saw free tailgating and thought this sounds like fun and signed up for it and didn’t even realize they were reserving a spot for the season. He was led to believe this because all the spots were taking so quickly, which has never happened before. It is usually the same suspects who reserve all the spots the fraternities, Chi Alpha, Ragin Cajun Catholics and a few other campus organizations. So if my contacts speculation is accurate you will have a bunch of spots reserved with no one in them.

I do know for a fact that 2 of what are usually the 2 biggest fraternity tailgate groups do not have a spot because they were all reserved.

I am thinking I may offer them my spot for game 1 and tell them to bring loud music beer pong and anything else the university has shut down over the years. We gonna party like it’s 1989.
