Washington Named to Doak Walker Award Watch List

Washington, a junior, rushed for 515 yards on 92 carries last season for Louisiana with a pair of touchdowns. The Hemphill, Texas, native gained a season-high 103 yards against Buffalo and scored touchdowns in games against Northwestern State and Southern Miss.

The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name ten semifinalists in November, and three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, will also be announced in November. The committee will cast a second vote in December to determine the recipient.

The National Selection Committee consists of past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives. The recipient of the 2024 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on December 12, 2024.

The award is named for SMU's three-time All-America running back Doak Walker. Each Tuesday of this season, The PwC SMU Athletic Forum will once again announce a Doak Walker National Running Back of the week.

Louisiana will officially kick off its 2024 season on August 31 when it plays host to in-state opponent Grambling at Cajun Field.

Good for Washington. I don’t think he will get enough touches though. If perry can figure out his fumbling issues and seeing what Davis gave us at the end of the year. I’d try to split the touches between the 3. Keep them all happy but no gaudy numbers to turn p4 heads. I’d like to see them all get about 120 carries and 700 yards each. 10-12 TDs. That would be 30 rushes a game and about 175 yards. I’d love to be the top rushing team in the belt. Ground and pound on Saturday night is the best think to drink too.
