Tilman Fertitta (owner of Houston Rockets) may want to bring in his own guy. With his financial clout, he basically runs Houston Cougars athletics. He built the basketball program a new arena virtually at his own cost. That is why the Cougars are now regular Final Four contenders.

A source tells @HoustonChron that top levels of UH administration had become frustrated with AD Chris Pezman’s inability to make significant progress to increase revenue through sponsorships and fundraising and it was a “consensus decision” to make a change.

    So Maggard is out

UH has a president (woman) who understands the importance of athletics to the university and it alumni. She has moved the university in an upward trajectory academically and athletically and now has them in the Big 12. Our president has done great things academically and with our campus, but athletics has been left to relative mediocrity at the G5 level with no understanding of the importance of athletics to the brand of the university that moves the needle with its alumni and fans or an unwillingness to do so.

This is a quickly growing concern across the nation. Professional sports are becoming unaffordable to the average family, college sports are simply following the trend. NIL just grease the skids.

NIL moved a good bit of funds that universities received to NIL. And fans are saying enough and walking away.

Say for football here at UL if you total the cost of RCAF membership, parking and season tickets and divide by 6 the cost per game per seat can be anywhere between 250.00 to 500.00. The entertainment value is not there. Add having to deal with the parking Nazis and tailgate Nazis you come to the conclusion that it's just not worth it. I can stay home and listen to the game on the radio or watch on TV and get something to eat or drink from my fridge, take a nap or work in my yard. Bottom line, it's easier to stay home and not pay someone to hassle you.

Well, here’s tonight’s view into the future. Been saying basketball is next. Increase the number of slices of pie and shut out the “mid majors” gaining bids, more money in the long run for the big boys.

    Other sports will follow.

    NIL strikes the NIT

it will probably be more diminished rather than gone

it may even become THE top level of competition for those no longer capable of competing in the NCAA tournament as a result of free transferred combined with NIL (or better the lack of NIL sources and funding)
