Thread: Louisiana Places Three On ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team

  1. UL Baseball Louisiana Places Three On ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team

Louisiana's Kyle DeBarge and LP Langevin were each named first-team selections while first baseman Trey LaFleur was a second-team pick as the 2024 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-Region Teams in eight regions were announced on Tuesday.

The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Division I All-America & Coach of the Year Committee.

The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-America teams will be announced on Friday prior to the start of the 2024 NCAA Division I College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. First Team All-Region selections are eligible for All-America honors.

DeBarge, the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, hit .355 on the season while setting school-records in both home runs (21) and total bases (179). The junior shortstop drove in 72 runs – the most by a Ragin' Cajun since Greg Blevins (75) in 1990 – while starting in all 62 games for Louisiana.

Rated as the No. 1 shortstop nationally by D1Baseball and the SBC's No. 2 Draft Prospect, DeBarge finished second in the Sun Belt Conference in slugging percentage (.699), OPS (1.117), home runs (21), hits (91) and at-bats (256).

DeBarge, who joined Jace Conrad (2014) and Blake Trahan (2015) in earning SBC Player of the Year honors, belted 13 homers and drove in 45 RBI in SBC games while becoming the first player in school history to break the 20-home run mark.

Langevin posted a 6-1 record on the mound in his first season in a Louisiana uniform while leading the team with seven saves. The right-hander posted a 3.73 ERA in 23 appearances on the mound and struck out 106 batters in 62.2 innings of work.

The Quebec City, Quebec native became the school's sixth player to earn SBC Pitcher of the Year honors joining Scott Dohmann (2000), Austin Faught (2005), Hunter Moody (2006), Carson Baranik (2014), Gunner Leger (2017) and Colten Schmidt (2018).

The No. 5 overall relief pitcher by D1Baseball. Langevin finished as the SBC leader in strikeouts, fewest hits allowed (40) and fewest runs allowed (27). Langevin was tied for third in saves among SBC pitchers, seventh in ERA and tied for ninth in wins.

LaFleur, who finished 1-for-25 at the plate in 2023, recorded one of the top comeback stories in school history as he led Louisiana at the plate with a .364 average. The Pensacola, Fla., native added 12 homers and 42 RBI to finish behind DeBarge in both categories.

The senior ranked seventh among SBC leaders in batting average, third in both slugging percentage (.670) and OPS (1.105) and recorded 19 multi-hit games and 10 games with multiple RBI

LaFleur posted nine, three-hit games for the Ragin' Cajuns and ranks among the team leaders in batting average, home runs, slugging percentage, on-base percentage (.435), doubles (16), RBI and stolen bases (10).

The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.
