Thread: Are we really getting that lazy as a society? (OT sorta)

Default Are we really getting that lazy as a society? (OT sorta)

Saturday morning I was making my daily drive to Reds. As I was approaching Cajun Field driving toward Congress, I noticed the parking lot was full. While stopped at the light at CD Blvd and Congress I noticed it was the annual SLEMCO meeting going on. As I crossed congress I noticed there was a shuttle bus where the commuter students usually get on and off the bus at Cajun Field. Are we really that lazy as a society that people can no longer walk across the street? 10 or 15 years ago you wouldn’t of imagined having a shuttle to go across the street.

This made me think maybe the university should start offering a shuttle for those who park in the lots across Congress from Cajun field and complain about the long walk.

When did society get so freaking lazy?

Was on SLEMCO many years ago and attended the “annual meeting” twice. The good majority of the people back then that attended were 50ish and up. I’d venture it’s pretty much the same demographic attending. The CD doesn’t have enough parking for those with mobility issues.

It’s an interesting event. SLEMCO prides the event, framed with the virtues of “rural electrification” and the number of “members” that attend. Take out the freebies given away, especially the closing event, the car give away, hardly anyone would attend.

It works though, flip that and and apply it to sporting events and the experience goes up.

Or maybe Slemco understands that of the 15,000 or so customers that show up, a percentage of them will be handicapped or elderly and would have difficulty walking long distances.

If that shuttle wasn’t there 10 years ago, it was because Slemco wasn’t as thoughtful and accommodating to the needs of their customers as they are today.

It is hard for me to imagine why someone would see this as a poor reflection on our society.

Because people are conditioned to be outraged at everything in modern day society.

It's a company providing a good experience for their customers.

Maybe rail on the person waiting for the closest parking spot at red's as a sign of laziness. I've lost count of the times I've sat in my car cooling off after a workout and having someone sitting there waiting for me to leave.

SLEMCO went the extra mile back in ‘89 and the big freeze. They were going door to door in our subdivision checking on people, making sure heaters worked and of course promoting energy conversation. This was in the middle of the night.

Only thing that bugged me (don’t know if they still do this) was putting money aside to give customers when they died or moved away. Just seemed more logical to give customers that each month in decreased billing.

Depending on when you go to reds that can definitely be an issue. It's annoying that people seemingly there to exercise can't take a few extra steps

arn't these people the "customer" in each instance (Red's and Slemco) just like Cajun fans are characterized on this board

maybe Cajun fans are soft for demanding all of the things they are demanding in the form of fan experience

KK might just have something here

My elderly parents live in a very rural area and have SLEMCO. Most all of the people who live around them are also up in age. I'd guess that SLEMCO has a large percentage of older customers and recognized the need for a shuttle. If so, good on them for addressing the situation.

I definitely would not consider the elderly "lazy" for not walking long distances. For baseball games, I drop my father off at the steps of the Tigue and then go park my truck. I promise you my father is not lazy.
