Meet the June RCAF Investors of the Month, Josh and Betsy Richard.
Joshua Paul Richard was born on the bayou in Houma, Louisiana. He attended Vandebilt Catholic High School and went on to earn his B.S. in Management at the University of Louisiana as part of the first graduating class of B.I. Moody. Josh continued his education at "Harvard on the Bayou", Nicholls State University, where he earned his MBA. During his collegiate career, he studied international business and multicultural marketing in Costa Rica and Taiwan while making friends around the world. Josh was awarded "Most Charismatic" by his peers. He also received numerous other awards and accolades, such as 3rd place in the Southland Mall Spelling Bee, 1st place in the Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby, and "Best Dad of the Year" for 19 years in a row.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth (Betsy) Ann Abundiz was growing up in San Jose, California. Her illustrious education included homeschooling, public schooling, and private schooling. She earned her ASN (Associate's Degree in Nursing) from Gavilan College and went on to get her BSN at Western Governors University while working as an ICU nurse. Betsy has been awarded the most prestigious award in her field - the DAISY award. One could achieve no higher award (except for perhaps marrying Josh). During Betsy's career, she has worked in trauma, open heart, and AirMed where she flew around the Gulf South transporting patients to safety.
They choose to give back to Louisiana Athletics to continue elevating Josh's alma mater, the student-athlete profile, and the community. Oh, and Betsy enjoys the baseball seats. Josh and Betsy state, "If you're considering giving back, chat with an RCAF member about how you can make the most impact - it isn't always a monetary donation. RCAF is equipped to ensure your involvement meets the needs of both parties."
One of Betsy's most memorable Louisiana Athletics experiences is the Easter Egg hunt at the Tigue. They always enjoy seeing future baseball players scoop up eggs barehanded and throw the runner out at 2nd. Josh's most memorable Louisiana Athletics experience that still gives him chills was when Louisiana beat San Diego State in the 2011 R&L Carriers bowl as Brett kicked a 50-yard field goal as time expired.
While this family is hopeful for a bright future for Louisiana Athletics, Betsy would love to see more mosquito nets for the fans (her West Coast blood is very attractive to the skeeters). Josh and the family are hopeful that UL Athletics continues to improve the stature and allure of Lafayette as a fan-favorite place to visit. Josh and Betsy explain, "We know how special each of the facilities are, and we are hopeful that with continued support, we will be able to share this with even more people."
As Josh and Betsy are huge Ragin' Cajuns Baseball fans and take immense pride in this program, they were thrilled to share one of their favorite sayings, "We want guys who drink out of the water hose, not the guy whose mommy is bringing him a Powerade in the third inning."
