Well we shall see if they hold em or fold em starting at 2 this afternoon. This has been a disappointing end to the season for sure.

Texas wasted 2 of their good pitchers yesterday and their Friday guy against us. Who are they throwing today? I like our chances vs Texas this time with C Meaux on the mound to start.

Here’s hoping that Texas is suffering from a hangover after what had to be a draining and demoralizing loss to A&M last night.

Per my note last night, Texas actually burned three of their best arms against the Aggies (LBJ Jr., Boehm, and Duplantier). My speculation was correct, Texas is starting lefty Ace Whitehead today (4.33 ERA, 60.1 IP, 23 BB, 42K, .231 OBA). Whitehead is more of a pitch to contact lefty. I have seen him at 88-91 with a decent change and breaking ball. He has given up 9 long balls in 60.1 innings.

Meanwhile, after Whitehead, Texas has -

    Chase Lummus (3.86 ERA, 21.0 IP, 15 BB, 19 K, .240 OBA) (17 pitches last night)
    Cade O'Hara (2.75 ERA, 19.2 IP, 6 BB, 12 K, .229 OBA( (27 pitches against the Cajuns Friday evening)
    Easton Tumis (4.88 ERA, 27.2 IP, 14 BB, 27 K, .235 OBA)
    ** Grant Fontenot (2.45 ERA, 11.0 IP, 8 BB, 14 K, .295 OBA)
    Hudson Hamilton (5.40 ERA, 16.2 IP, 7 BB, 14 K, .319 OBA)
    David Shaw (7.79 ERA, 17.1 IP, 14 BB, 23 K, .275 OBA)
    Cody Howard (10.36 ERA, 24.1 IP, 21 BB, 17 K, .347 OBA)
    Heston Tole (6.55 ERA, 11.0 IP, 2 BB, 13 K, .304 OBA)
    Luke Harrison (9.58 ERA, 10.1 IP, 12 BB, 9 K, .349 OBA)

** Dismissed from team per sportsfanatic21's post

These are all of your available pitchers with double digit innings. Discipline at the plate will be important.

Former freshman All-American Tanner Witt has battled injuries during his collegiate career and seems to be on the shelf, as he has not pitched since early March.

I do not expect Grubbs, LBJ Jr., Boehm, or Duplantier to be available today.

I would expect the Horns to hold back starter Charlie Hurley (5.32, 45.2 IP, 26 BB, 37 K, .266 OBA) for a potential Game 5/Game 6.

Note: Grant Fontenot (a Lafayette High grad) was dismissed from the team shortly after the weekend at Minute Maid Park

This is an important game for the program for Deggs. We all want to win the regional yes but we need to get to a regional final. The last two years we have not gotten there and it is important stepping stone to get into that final and play in that atmosphere with it all on the line. We need our best effort against Texas today as they looked demoralized in the dugout after the game and it is a quick turn around. Lets jump on them quick today and get to the final.

Agree. Getting to the regional finals in this regional would be an excellent accomplishment. I have faith that the boys will get it done this afternoon.

And after that, while highly unlikely, ANYTHING can happen.

Yes, wearing Louisiana on national television would be smart branding.

Do we have a white jersey with Louisiana on it?

Edit: or any color? I don’t recall seeing one this season

  15. UL Baseball Re: Cajuns vs Longhorns part 2

Cajun pitching for the College Station Regional

    (LHP) Chase Morgan (4-3, 3.29 ERA, 68.1 IP, 18 BB, 6 K, 3 HP, .207 OBA) (0 pitches in regional)
    (RHP) LP Langevin (6-1, 3.75 ERA, 60.0 IP, 32 BB, 100 K, 9 HP, .177 OBA) (0 pitches in regional)
    * (RHP) Matthew Holzhammer (3-1, 4.97 ERA, 25.1 IP, 13 BB, 28 K, 1 HP, .255 OBA) (0 pitches in regional)
    (LHP) Steven Cash (3-0, 3.86 ERA, 18.2 IP, 13 BB, 22 K, 10 HP, .197 OBA) (0 pitches in regional)
    ** (RHP) Murphy Brooks (2-0, 5.02 ERA, 14.1 IP, 8 BB, 19 K, 2 HP, .298 OBA) (0 pitches in regional)
    --
    (RHP) Jack Martinez (4-3, 4.43 ERA, 44.2 IP, 28 BB, 49 K, 7 HP, .200 OBA) (40 pitches Friday)
    (RHP) David Christie (2-1, 4.67 ERA, 52.0 IP, 24 BB, 49 K, 9 HP, .249 OBA) (41 pitches Friday)
    (LHP) Blake Marshall (1-1, 7.00 ERA, 27.0 IP, 25 BB, 34 K, 3 HP, .255 OBA) (19 pitches Friday)
    (LHP) Maddox Mandino (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 1.2 IP, 3 BB, 1 K, 1 HP, .400 OBA) (33 pitches Friday)
    (RHP) JR Tollett (0-0, 12.46 ERA, 4.1 IP, 3 BB, 5 K, 2 HP, .381 OBA) (11 pitches Friday)

All of the above pitchers would be available for the mound in today's games.

    (RHP) JT Etheridge (3-2, 5.01 ERA, 32.1 IP, 20 BB, 50 K, 8 HP, .205 OBA) (42 pitches Saturday)
    (RHP) Blake McGehee (3-2, 5.12 ERA, 38.2 IP, 16 BB, 33 K, 8 HP, .259 OBA) (49 pitches Saturday)
    (RHP) Carson Fluno (4-1, 3.25 ERA, 55.1 IP, 20 BB, 48 K, 7 HP, .205 OBA) (61 pitches Friday)
    (LHP) Andrew Herrmann (6-3, 3.09 ERA, 67.0 IP, 26 BB, 61 K, 3 HP, .224 OBA) (73 pitches Saturday)

Etheridge, McGehee, and Fluno would be able to go on Monday. Herrmann possibly as well.

    * I believe Holzhammer is healthy
** Not certain whether he is on the NCAA postseason roster (needed to cut from 34 to 27 post SBC Tournament)
