Four members of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball team were selected to the 2023-24 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Softball Team, including Maddie Hayden, Sam Landry, Chloe Riassetto and Cecilia Vasquez.
The Academic All-District® distinction from CSC marks the second consecutive year being honored for Hayden. It's the first in the collegiate careers for Landry, Riassetto and Vasquez.
To be selected to the CSC Academic All-District® Softball Team, a student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and must have played in a minimum of 90 percent of a team's games or started 66 percent of the games to be eligible, with pitchers requiring 17 appearances or 25 innings pitched.
The 2023-24 Academic All-District® Softball Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Landry and Riassetto were selected as CSC Academic All-America® finalists, advancing them to the national ballot for Academic All-America® voting. The Division I winners are scheduled to be announced on June 18.
In addition to maintaining the 3.5 cumulative GPA in their respective academic major, Landry (biology) set career-highs in wins (24) and strikeouts (165), Riassetto (general studies) recorded five Top 25 RPI wins including a triumph over then-No. 1 Oklahoma, Hayden (kinesiology/pre-professional studies) had a career-high 71 hits and led UL with 53 runs scored and 12 doubles, and Vasquez (kinesiology/pre-professional studies) was the team leader in extra base hits (10) in conference play and was involved in 25 of the Cajuns' nation-leading 46 double plays.
