That game was played like it was a game with one team fighting for its life and the other playing like they have bigger goals.
Who actually thinks McGehee enters the game when Morgan got in trouble instead of Langevin if the Cajuns were in do or die mode in this tournament? And by the way, Morgan probably wasn’t gonna throw much longer anyway. We saw JR Tollett throw more innings today than he had thrown all season, Steven Cash come into the game and get a few outs, and Murphy Brooks in to clean up the 9th. And that was after we had scored a few runs to have a small chance of coming back.
For the record, those 3 kids did a great job and games like this will be good for all of them moving forward. Hell, they may be needed at some point before this season is over and done with.
The offense got shut down by a GREAT pitching performance from a tough lefty. This lineup is left-handed heavy, and this kind of thing happening is nothing new this season. Once he was done, they immediately scored some runs on a double and a couple of HRs.
They were also able to give a couple guys some ABs in the 9th, and even though they didn’t go well, getting those ABs today may help if they are needed going forward.
All of the doom and gloom is a huge overreaction. I’ve said it a couple times over the last few weeks, listen to the pregame interviews and to the weekly press conferences. Sure they are trying to win these games in Montgomery, but while doing so, they are preparing for what comes next, and winning now wont come at the expense of what’s to come after this week.
One hundred percent agree with this post. Deggs said that he would have his eye on next week on how he used his pitching. There is no difference between a 2 or 3 seed basically. Go into next week healthy and rested and then blow it all to win the regional. I would like to win a game tomorrow but if it doesn’t happen will not be end of the world. Ole miss didn’t win a game in SEC tournament and got in the tournament got hot and the rest is history. Just hope for a good draw next week and play well.
Rpi dropped to 35 which is lower than it was when games started today. Skys not falling.
We are 1 spot behind ole miss who doesn’t qualify for the tourney with a sub.500 record.
2 is NOT the same as 3
while you play from the same spot in the bracket, there is a reason one of you is a 2 and one of you is a 3
when you are a 2, there are two teams that are worse than you in the regional
when you are a 3, there are two teams that are better then you in the regional
that is a whole lot of difference
There is a big difference in a 2 or 3 seed, people keep saying this but you are assuming you would be in the same regional. On selection day, list all the 2 seeds and list all the 3 seeds and you tell me which list you would want to draw a straw out of to play someone. Once you get into a regional it doesn’t matter but a 2 and 3 seed are not the same.
What matters is the 1 seed. No matter what regional you’re in, as the 2 or the 3, you’re gonna play a good team in the first game. But if you don’t beat the 1 seed, you’re not advancing 99% of the time. People in the know like the Cajuns, and what they’ve done this year.
That said, the Cajuns are likely going to be a 2 seed. They lost a game today. They are not eliminated. Win a game tomorrow and none of this is even worth discussing.
I think the point is for a team like the Cajuns. Just get in and get hot. Like ole Miss or Fresno state, or coastal in 16. You gotta beat good teams to get to Omaha.
Of course if you win all your games you’ll be in a much better position. But losses happen in baseball. We are lucky we can afford any at this point. That luxury will end soon. Gotta get hot for a few weeks.
