Thread: Softball RPI (through games of 5/4)

  1. Poll Softball RPI (through games of 5/4)

Given that the NCAA is not publishing the official RPI over the weekend, I calculated the RPI Top 25 myself accounting for the RPI bonuses (Adjusted RPI) that Warren Nolan Softball RPI does not include. The Cajuns moved up to #11.

#(Adjusted RPI Rank, Adjusted RPI) School (Base RPI Rank, Base RPI, RPI Bonus)

    #7 .6693 Georgia (#8, .6471, .0222)
    #8 .6626 UCLA (#6, .6501, .0125)
    #9 .6619 Oklahoma State (#9, .6463, .0156)
    #10 .6612 Missouri (#13, .6368, .0244)
    #11 .6590 Louisiana (#14, .6361, .0229)
    #12 .6540 Florida (#10, .6397, .0143)
    #13 .6533 Alabama (#16, .6350, .0183)
    #14 .6533 Florida State (#12, .6375, .0158)
    #15 .6517 Arkansas (#11, .6379, .0138)
    #16 .6506 Texas A&M (#15, .6354, .0152)
    #17 .6376 California (#21, .6167, .0209)
    #18 .6374 Virginia Tech (#17, .6236, .0138)
    #19 .6360 Baylor (#23, .6157, .0203)
    #20 .6355 Texas State (#20, .6177, .0178)
    #21 .6316 Mississippi State (#24, .6132, .0184)
    #22 .6288 Arizona (#18, .6210, .0078)
    #23 .6286 Auburn (#22, .6161, .0125)
    #24 .6280 Clemson (#25, .6114, .0166)
    #25 .6253 Washington (#19, .6187, .0066)

The Cajuns are one of only 10 teams receiving the special NC Road SOS RPI Bonus for strong scheduling on the road outside of conference. Only three teams in the RPI Top 25 are receiving this .0026 bonus ... Texas, Louisiana, and Baylor.

California, Baylor, and Mississippi State are making their move. Washington has fallen back.

The Cajuns are closer to #8 than they are to #12. Once again, there is a large gap between #16 and #17. The Cajuns are closer to #3 than they are to #17.

    Awesome stuff.
    Need this win today!

  4. UL Softball Re: Softball RPI (through games of 5/3)

Just an edit note ... these games are through 5/3, not 5/4. It was late (after midnight) and I did not back date the current date (which was 5/4 at the time of writing). Maybe Turbine can edit the thread title.

Meanwhile, the NCAA did just publish the Softball RPI through 5/3. There are some very minor differences in the Base RPI values between Warren Nolan and what the NCAA calculated, but not enough to shift teams. It was a few RPI bonuses that were on the edge that shifted one way or the other ... affecting a few of the teams that were very close to one another. But the Cajuns' RPI and RPI ranking is correct/unchanged as are most.

In some important action affecting the Cajuns and their quest for a national seed ...

    #23 Auburn (26-18-1) leads #12 Alabama (33-15) 2-0 in the T3rd (Auburn is home).

#10 Missouri (just ahead of the Cajuns by a mere .00086) is leading #26 South Carolina (33-19) 2-0 B2nd (South Carolina is home).

#73 Base RPI Chattanooga (35-13) faces a bad #244 Western Carolina (16-30) team and needs to take both games today. Hopefully that keeps Chattanooga in the Base RPI Top 75 for important RPI bonus purposes ... presently a bonus of .0026 for the Cajuns ... the equivalent of a Base RPI Top 25 win.

#86 Base RPI Colorado State has been falling further away from the Base RPI Top 75, losing 4 of their last 5 and both games of the home #68 Boise State (32-21) series. The last game of their regular season is today vs. Boise State. Colorado State moving back into the Base RPI Top 75 would yield the Cajuns an additional .0013 RPI bonus.

    - #11 Louisiana takes the series vs. #55 Troy, winning 4-1
    - #23 Auburn defeats #12 Alabama 3-0 (winning back-2-back series vs. Bama in '23 and '24)
    - #85 Syracuse mercy rules #13 Florida State in 5, 13-5, taking 2/3 from the Noles
    - #10 Missouri defeats #26 South Carolina 4-2
    - #7 Georgia defeated #21 Mississippi State 5-0
    - #14 Florida leads #16 Texas A&M 8-3 B3rd (Florida home)
    - #73 Base RPI Chattanooga and #244 Western Carolina are just getting started
    - #86 Base RPI Colorado State leads #68 Boise State 2-1 T5th (CSU home)

  8. UL Softball Re: Softball RPI (through games of 5/4)

The Cajuns stay at #11 in the official RPI rankings (5/4 2:30pm CST) ... but do increase their RPI and are packed tightly with #10 Oklahoma State, #9 Missouri, and #8 UCLA. #12 Florida is a bit back of the Cajuns, but will gain some ground should they hold their lead vs. Texas A&M (leading 8-3 in the 4th). Obviously all of this is very fluid, but this is where we are as of now ...

    #8 .6631 UCLA
    #9 .6625 Missouri
    #10 .6616 Oklahoma State
    #11 .6608 Louisiana
    #12 .6531 Florida
    #13 .6509 Arkansas
    #14 .6495 Alabama
    #15 .6494 Texas A&M
    #16 .6489 Florida State
    #17 .6383 Virginia Tech
    #18 .6381 California
    #19 .6358 Baylor
    #20 .6349 Texas State

I know it's early, but if all stays the same, and they seed per RPI the Cajuns would play the #6 seed SR. That would be better than having to play a top 3-4 seed.

Getting into the range where a Baton Rouge vs. Lafayette SR pairing is not far fetched. Not at all.

Could say it’s money in the bank…probably.

Repetition isn’t healthy for the game. I’d pass out cold if the Cajuns got bumped to 8 by the committee.
