Those in need of household appliances will receive a huge break from the state in about two weeks. Louisiana is one of several states to receive more than 4.2 million dollars to start a program very similar to cash for clunkers. Expect this one, is called cash for appliances.
Here's how it works, if you own an old non-energy efficient appliance, such as a washer, refrigerator or dishwasher, come April 24th, you can trade in your old appliance and get up to 500 dollars back.
The rebate only applies to specific appliances with an energy star sticker. Getting the rebate however, is a bit of a process. "You must reserve your rebate, and then you must go online and call the telephone number to confirm your purchase. You have 30 days from once you reserve your purchase to confirm your purchase and then you must certify the recycling of your old appliance," said Sears Manager Robert Elliot.
Sears stores will open at 6am to help customers out. The deal doesn't apply to everyone. You must be a resident of the state of Louisiana, and the product must be going to a residence in the state of Louisiana. There's also a limit; one rebate type per house hold.
The cash for appliance program is set to run through 2012 or when the state runs out of funds.
