Unsurprising gripes..
Four p5 conference Champs + one g5 conference champ is a simple formula.. but it removes the committee's ability to rationalize giving lower seeds to G5 (or excluding them altogether) so they can get better P5 TV matchups
Liberty did us no favors last year
I can think of a way that avoids rematches..... "its easy if you try"
So they starterd this with 5 p5 champ.slots, they lose one p5 champ but dont reallocate the slot, interesting.
Problems will always exist irregardless of the format. I like it because at least it's a start on opening the door to more teams having a chance to win it all.
The 12 team bracket is a definite improvement allowing G5 access. Its the only bright spot right now in the college football outside of the NIL pay for play poaching/Unlimited transfer portal vortex. If CFP eventually expands to 16 team bracket, maybe another G5 can get in some years with two undefeated G5 champs? Big maybe, no guarantees. Hard to say how much difference expanding to 16 teams affects G5 except perhaps bolstering the payouts while at the same time eliminating a few bowl games.
How about a spot reserved for the team with least NIL per win?
Until the playoff system is all inclusive, it is still subjective to whatever teams will bring in the most money to the playoff system.
If you don't honestly give the G5 schools a chance to compete for a national championship, then don't play them during the regular season. Only play other P4 schools. End of discussion.
Good thing baseball doesn't use the same philosophy as the football playoff system, a Coastal Carolina would have never had a chance to compete, let alone win the College World Series.
Same thing can and will happen in football if given the opportunity.
