Regarding Clint Fagan calling pitches behind the plate ...
One thing that was evident in this game regarding Clint Fagan … other than the strike zone opening up after Deggs had something to say … He was calling pitches over the outer 1/4 of the plate (entire baseball, if not more over the plate) … and at the knees or a little above … a ball. But if you throw it over the middle of the plate a few inches below the knees, he will call it a strike. I hate that. You cannot have an unfairly tight zone when the pitcher is trying to throw on the outer 1/4 at the knees (calling it a ball) … while at the same time calling a pitch a strike below the knees just because it crosses the inner half of the plate (down broadway). It does not work that way.
One thing I will also say about the camera at Springs Brooks Stadium ... the angle was among the best I have seen ... nearly behind the pitcher, just to the right. At the same time, you could clearly see the entire plate ... instead of just the batter box lines.

Back on the field
Restarting in a few minutes. Doubleheader tomorrow.
Weather delay has widened the zone. To be fair those pitches are strikes, but they were not strikes in the first 3 innings.

Top of 5th
Wow. Christie paints the corner with strike 3 to end the inning...NOPE
And next pitch smoked off the wall.
Pack the ____ up and play 2 tomorrow. Hope to get a realistic zone tomorrow.
Isn't their pitcher sporting like a 5+ era? We should be hitting this guy.
Christie has been a bright spot tonight.
