    Default Deggs

I remember that when Tony got here, every year we did better, and went farther into the tournament, making the CWS in 2000.

I started wondering about Deggs, this is on his Wikipedia page:

    2020.....Louisiana.....8–9........0–0....(West)............Season canceled: COVID-19
    2021.....Louisiana...32–23....13–11...T–1st (West)..Sun Belt Tournament
    2022.....Louisiana...37–23....19–11...4th..................NCAA Regional
    2023.....Louisiana...41–24....18–12...4th..................NCAA Regional
    2024.....Louisiana...22-8.........9-1
    Louisiana:............140–87.....59–35

    140-87 ain't half-bad.

The 'Belt got a lot better, and more competitive, but fast. We had recently added TX State, App State, GA Southern, and Coastal. And of course right after that, we added USM, ODU, JMU and Marshall.

It helped our recruiting, and Deggs is slowly developing his own players, his own team.

Well, some people have theories about a single change, but the question is, do the theories hold up, particularly when so many variables change from year to year? Perhaps it was coaching changes.

But consider that in 2021 we tied for 1st in the West, and even though we won 6 more conference games in 2022, we came out 4th in the West. Think about it: you win more games, but you finish much lower in your conference... and still go to the NCAAs?

Yes, we had personnel changes. But as I noted, the 'Belt got better, fast.

We all like simple, single answers. Problem is, that's not what life gives us... and that is a hard-won lesson from years in the emergency room. I've gotten burned a few times by looking at only one thing.

The patients and I are both fortunate that there was no permanent harm.

2022 they won the sunbelt tournament to get the automatic bid. They would not have gotten an at large that year.
