T&F: Louisiana Continues to Rewrite Record Book in Tuscaloosa
TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - The Louisiana track and field team continued their strong outdoor season with 12 new top 10 scores in the record book at the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Marin Barras got the day going with a third-place throw in the javelin at 161-5, the sixth-longest in program history. The day continued with Skylar Delgado (11:14.17) and Caroline Spalitta (11:16.91) recording the fourth and sixth fastest 3000S in a Cajun uniform.
Alexandra Johnson ran her way toward the top of the record book in the 800 at 2:10.26, placing her third in program history. Moseiha Bridgen came just 0.03 seconds behind the school record in the 400H with a time of 57.77. Right after her performance, Javed Jones also jumped into the top three in school history in the 400H with his time of 50.27. The women's 4x100 relay team of Jaala Thymes, Ta'La Spates, Mari Robinson, and Amairi Ashford crossed the finish line at 45.03 for the fifth-fastest relay in Cajun history.
Robinson put herself eighth in the 200 with her time of 23.85. While in the men's 200 Zakhy Munro is now seventh at 20.77. In the shot put Jayden Jackson accomplished the fifth-longest throw by a Cajun at 45-1.5. Abbey Marie Ratcliff (17:20.19) and Isabelle Russell (17:22.94) closed the record setters with the third and fourth fastest 5000 in program history.
Louisiana found themselves near the podium all day. Peyton Chiasson (9:19.34) and Mason Haley (9:33.94) went back-to-back in the 3000S in second and third. Taylor Walls followed that with a jump of 19-0.75 in the long jump to finish in fourth. Reem Tammam finished third in the triple jump, clearing 40-2.25. In the men's triple jump, Jeremy Nelson finished on top with a jump of 48-9 while Montrell Morris was third at 47-11.75.
The Cajuns return to action next Friday, April 13 in Natchitoches for the Leon Johnson Invitational.
