A banquet is held almost every year. It is meant to reward players for past performance and not necessarily an indication of the future. These guys have not left yet. Granted if they get reasonable NIL deals they likely move on. Honoring them is a way to let them know their effort are appreciated and we would not mind having them return.

I think it is a good move to maintain this function in the era of mas departures (especially for the players still on the team) it shows that you appreiate their efforts through thick and thin.

Let that be a lesson for award banquets moving forward. Probably don't want to hand an MVP award to someone in the transfer portal to drive down I-10 and play for an SLC team.

And people will say it’s foolish to believe we can compete in the NIL era. Just got surpassed by a program that you couldn’t pay people to support for 30 years. Our leadership is garbage.
